Is there or would there be any issues of using my VPN while playing?

I just started using a reputable VPN service yesterday for obvious reasons and want to know if this would cause any issues since it will show my location in another part of the US through their servers and/or if I change VPN servers for speed, etc?

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, have you tried emailing support? They'll get back to you a lot faster than the representatives on here.

I agree emailing support is likely a better option and likely to be answered sooner, but I would be interested in their answer when you get one.
01-03-2018 , 02:07 PM
Yes, that probably would be the better option, will do so now and let you know the response I receive.
01-03-2018 , 03:44 PM
Well, not the answer I was looking for but I guess I can see their point. Just need to remember to turn it off before playing. But.. but... I use my VPN for security reasons Glad I asked.

Thanks for sharing.

Appreciate the info. I haven't used a VPN yet myself, but I could see doing it. Thanks for asking the question and posting the response.

Welcome. I've been contemplating on it for quite awhile. My antivirus (Avast) gave me a 60-day trial. There are a lot of advantages and a few disadvantages.

It's just an additional method for protection of my private information ie; banking, etc.

Also in my security business, I am adding, modifying pertinent information of our monitoring subscribers accounts & systems which requires the utmost in protection.

Here's one of many decent articles which is a good layman's terms read on VPN's:

https://www.pcmag.com/article/352757...-and-heres-why

One drawback I've seen so far are slower speeds depending on the server locale.

This is likely well off the path for 2+2, but I will say, besides for playing at Global because they apparently don 't like it (I think you need to fix this Global), a VPN is always wise, with the exception being from the internet you normally use. At a hotel, Starbucks, library, friends house, I am VPN all the way.

I'll have to agree on Global reconsidering this and I'd like our local rep here to provide some input to the uppers at GP for some feedback. The more I've thought about it the last few days, It really shouldn't matter if one utilizes a VPN at all.

Also, why did the Support Rep responding to my e-mail include the wording regarding "third party software", I mentioned nothing of the kind but just the VPN. Almost makes me think the rep didn't understand what I was asking.

I responded to their e-mail I posted above with:

Ok, thanks. I’ll just use it when doing banking, etc. in which it’s intended for, to be safe online.

I then received this response:

Hi ***,

Thank you for your response.

We appreciate your understanding regarding this matter. Yes, you may use it for safety purposes of your confidential information.

Should there be any concerns, please feel free to contact us again for assistance.

Sincerely,

******************

Meaning what, it's ok to use while playing on GP or you are approving me to use it elsewhere?

GP Rep, please provide some insight on this matter when you can, would be appreciated. For one, I have to remember to turn off the VPN every time I play. What if I forget? I see that as a very probable occurrence.

Sounds like support might not of known what a VPN is.They might have assumed it was some poker aiding software since they are a poker site.

Yeah you may be on to something there. I would agree, further clarification would be a good thing from Global. Maybe send them the whole chain of emails and don't use the acronym and tell them why you want to use it. As long as you have a verified account, they don't care if you play from other countries, I don't know why having a VPN you play from would be a bad thing.

VPN has nothing to do with their T&C and I cannot comprehend what difference it makes. That initial reply was from someone clueless. Many/most businesses are set up with VPNs and they have become common for many residences now, too.

Perhaps they meant it was OK to use during deposit/withdrawal transactions.

Hello,

Some of the suggestions made in this thread are correct.

VPNs are not banned, they are not encouraged but they are not against our Terms of Service.

Apologies for the mix up!

I/we appreciate your reply Joey. I wouldn't think that they'd be against the TOS just wanted to be sure.

You can actually build your own vpn too. If you are smart enough.

How smart do you have to be exactly to make your own vpn?

For instance, would I need to be as smart as someone who has posted 5 times on the forums and resurrects year old threads making comments to people who will likely never see them? Would I need to be that smart, or would I need to be smarter than that?

All trolling aside, if you are going to make your own vpn... stop.

use openvpn as the VPN and build it from pfSense, if you are a roll it yourself kind of person.

If you aren't, pay a few bucks to the many very good VPN providers out there.

But do not believe that you are smart enough to make your own VPN. You aren't.

Actually I planned to use VPN while playing, great I've seen your post. But actually I don't understand why anonimity isn't allowed.

Hello,

For the avoidance of any doubt, while we did not explicitly prohibit the use of VPN services in the past for those customers who already qualify to Participate in our Games, we have never allowed using VPN or similar services for true geolocation masking purposes or in order to circumvent customers' local jurisdiction restrictions:

https://globalpoker.com/terms-conditions

While we value the privacy of our customers, we also have certain obligations to follow and enforce, therefore we are currently considering to change our rules regarding VPN and similar services use. We usually communicate any significant changes to our rules, however, it is players' own responsibility to be aware of our rules at all times.
