I'm not sure when this happened, but the rake cap used to be $3 and now it appears to be $5.50 on the 10/20 NLHE tables and $3.50 on the 2/4 tables. I haven't checked others.

3/6 is now $4.

Confirmed.

Global? What happened to the $3 cap on rake?

Edit: 1-2 and lower still seem to be capped at 3

Gotta pay for all those Paypal disputes somehow.

It's a bummer that it increased but these are still pretty fair rates. Most casinos I play at are 10% up to $4 and have even played some house games with 10% no cap.

Certainly something they should have shared with the player base. They need release notes whenever they make changes.

These are not comparable in the least. 5%/$3 cap is the comparable standard for online.

Live casinos are always going to have a higher rake, they have to pay for dealers, floor people, tables, felt, chairs, flat screen tv's, etc they have a lot more overhead than an online cardroom.

As an aside, 10%/no cap rake is likely unbeatable, the house is taking so much money off the table in a game like that, you are getting royally ripped off (they are taking hundreds off the table every hour).

Has it been answered why the rake was increased without telling the players? Do they know they leave themselves open for PayPal chargebacks when they do this?

Not sure how it leaves them open for PayPal chargebacks? They haven't responded to my knowledge, but it is not a good look for a new site.

Hi guys,

We can confirm that on our higher limit tables there was a modest rake increase a couple of weeks ago.

There has been no changes on the $1/$2 tables and below and in most instances the rake is still only a fraction of one big blind. These changes were made for business reasons and still keep us extremely competitive with other sites.

We appreciate your feedback that this should have been communicated more clearly than it was and have taken that on board. We are a new company and are constantly evolving so we value your feedback. To that point, we are currently updating our website and will ensure that all rake is clearly available to players once this is live.

For clarity, our current rake structure is as follows.

Small blind Big blind Rake cap
$0.02 $0.04 $3.00
$0.05 $0.10 $3.00
$0.10 $0.20 $3.00
$0.25 $0.50 $3.00
$0.50 $1.00 $3.00
$1.00 $2.00 $3.00
$2.00 $4.00 $3.50
$3.00 $6.00 $4.00
$5.00 $10.00 $4.00
$10.00 $20.00 $5.50

Thanks for your understanding and for playing on Global Poker!

Sad to see this is the highest rake as far as online sites go in the world. Also, is there no rake reduction for heads up play? I usually start games heads up, but there is no incentive with the rake so high. Even live casinos cut the rake in half for short handed play.

Yeah I think even Ignition casino might've maxed out rake at $4 per hand. Pretty sure this is not competitive with other sites, but feel free to provide proof evidencing differently. 0 reward program, highest rake in the business...good way to kill a fast growing site.

Agreed, the rake isn't really competitive in the industry. This is the first time I've ever seen a room, live or online, raise the rake for higher stakes. Of course higher stakes live you often pay time instead of rake but I don't want to confuse the issue here.

Business decision to make more money, I doubt it will kill your high stakes traffic but it won't help. Also a reduced rake for short handed games would help as well.

To give you an idea of competitive rake, the following is taken from WPN which is one of the the largest US facing sites at this time.

At the very least there should be rake reduction for short-handed, the rake is already very high.

Have been torn about some sort of rakeback (as you do want to keep it more rec friendly), but the rake really is a killer here.

Not mention that ACR offers rake back of 27% - ~50%

Could you please look at what other member have already posted about the rake structure at ACR.

Here is the rake structure from Ignition:

As you can see your rake is far from competition. It's concerning that you're already raising rake to levels higher than all of your competitors. Saying that it's for 'business reasons' is a euphemism for "we want more money". When i read the features request thread I was happy that you seem to be very open and responsive to customer feedback. It seemed that you were separating yourself from other poker sites that pretend to care about their gaming environment, but really only care about their bottom line.

Please consider lowering your rake to levels that are actually competitive. Your rake is too high for micro and small stakes. It's ridiculously high across at all stakes for heads up and shorthanded play. Understand that by having rake so high for heads up and shorthanded, you make it nearly impossible for people to start games. By keeping rake at it's current level, you're just saying to players that your short term profits are a higher priority than create a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for your customers.

Yes, please lower the rake for short handed, especially heads up

You guys clearly aren't Dneg fans

I am all for lower rake , but worry any site offering rakeback is soon overrun with bots

We definitely don't want them offering rakeback. ACR was used as an example because they're rake is much lower to begin with and even that much lower when rakeback is factored in. Global should just lower rake to levels that are actually competitive and never offer rakeback. As it stands now the rake cap is too high at micro / small stakes and heads up / shorthanded rake is way too high at every limit.

Players are punished for starting games. If it's two regs starting a game then they're likely both losing money with rake as high as it is heads up. If a rec sits with 10bb-20bb it's also a joke because rake eliminates any edge playing so short.
