Overclocked Turbos Overclocked Turbos

Have you played?
thoughts?

standard turbo (w/ 5 min levels) but a 10 min "overclock".
after 10mins. cash-out based on proportional stack size..

Impossible to get past level 2. I'm having a hard time understanding this one...

Shovefest and get lucky or Nit-out and lose a little...

maybe you get lucky and have an over-pair and win 1 big hand... otherwise, people sit around and watch the clock

what am I missing?

so if most people are sitting out or not playing seems like all your doing is paying rake and getting less than your buy in returned. Sounds like a loosing proposition.

Reduce/eliminate time bank and they become semi interesting. Will not be everyone's cup of tea.

Have played a few now... and am net-winner (but, not by much).

shoved AK and got called by KQ and it held
had KK once and won about 1/2 my stack and same with JJ once...

I'm still not following how this is a good idea.........

I can sort of see a HyperTurbo w/ 3 min. levels and a 15-20min Overclock...

but, seems as silly as the ShoveFest...

It's just a way for them to make more rake in a short amount of time.

You should think of these as short stack cash games with no rebuy or re-entry. It's a small scale version of the cage match that ACR ran years ago.

Your starting stack represents your buy-in, minus the rake. If you win 150 chips, you have broken even. If you win 300 chips, you've made 10% ROI. Your goal in every spot is to make +ChipEV decisions and do not panic when the clock starts winding down. If you finish the tournament with 100 chips it's still better than zero.

If people are treating it as a shove fest, just react exactly as you would if people were shoving 50bb at a cash game. Wait for a hand that gives you the correct equity to call and bust em.

It is not +EV to abuse the time bank. Even if you tank/fold the final hand you're making the same decision on the first hand of the next tournament. Don't let the clock fool you into thinking you need to play tighter/looser than what is optimal. The only thing that matters is making +ChipEV decisions, and if you feel like your opponents are willing to make mistakes by playing too loose or too tight, you want to play more hands to try and exploit this behavior.

Finally, you really want to be comfortable playing short-handed and short-stacked. If you're good at HUSNG or Spin and Go's you'll excel in the later stages when we get to 3-4 handed play. If you're not familiar, study those formats to get an idea of how you can play these games as they also rely on making +ChipEV decisions due to the winner-take-all format. This study should be for range construction and postflop play only, as both of those formats are trying to win all the chips and in this format we want to make the best decisions possible, even if that means folding 10 hands in a row with a short stack.

I like them. Good way to pass time while everyone tanks bubble spots for an hour.
