My experience is that this is a very positive thing, and goes far beyond rakeback. As far as I know, I've gotten full credit. My guess on timing is somewhere around 6 weeks after you mail them - but there definitely is a lot of variance in this. You might mail 100 one day, and 6 weeks later get credit for 87, and a couple weeks later get the other 13. Or not. It might take a little longer. So you need to have patience, and not worry about it if it takes longer than you expect.
