This happens way to much. I don't want these bad players banned from the site because I'd prefer to take every dollar they have, but can we start outing these type of people and getting their chat banned.

Also, Global should be able to easily program their software to star out (***) certain words. This being the most important IMO.

Good thread! I think Global will ban their chat if you email them, but if people are using racist or really over the line comments then they need to be outed. Been seeing too much of that.

Let it be known that 2p2 stars out those words but Global does not.

Don't ban people, there is a mute player function for this reason.

This type of censorship is completely pointless. I've never understood it, does seeing the actual word somehow make it worse? This type of censorship and also the phrase "the N word" is disrespectful to your audience. It's coddling and if someone said this around me, I'd tell them to just say ****** and deal with the consequences.

Don't censor chat. Report abusive chat and have these players chat banned.

I can hit the mute button, but some recreational player that comes in and sees the racist slur may choose not to play online poker because of it. We all lose in that scenario. I can't believe how many people are making me look like the villain here.

I don't think people are trying to make you look like a villian. I'm certainly not. It is online chat. People tend to be mouthy and showcase their keyboard warrior skills online. I really think the only people that will be put off by it are the older people, particularly the older women. I have an online poker group and there are 6 or 7 women well into their 70s. That kind of commentary will upset them. Assuming you are not an older person, there really isn't a logical reason for it to be upsetting, as used in your OP.

I think the bad word police are really unnecessary. The reality is that player is just exercising their keyboard muscles.

Just because you can mute a player doesn't mean the player using the N word shouldn't get their chat banned.

Not saying such banter is okay but the overwhelming majority of people engaging in it are losing players so please, don't ban their chat. We need to give them every opportunity to use the site in any and every way possible.

But who cares how few people it is? If it's putting off some people, and it's nasty hate language, what's the benefit to allowing it?

how is it way different? its just silly to me that some insults are taboo but others are perfectly fine. if you make fun of someones race or sex preference then its horrible and should not be allowed in our society. if you make fun of someones appearance (that isnt race related) or their intelligence or poverty or popularity then its perfectly fine. ppl can be just as sensitive about those things as they are about race.

One is about being respectful to everyone and the other is part of the identity politics mantra with a side serving of faux outrage.

Amen. In Nov. of 2015, Carbon stopped allowing OPR to track their MTT. This coincided with the chat ban of a player, who had continually verbally abused other folks, about their poor stats vs his stats without mercy. He never used racial or homophobic slurs, but his constant, non-stop verbal assaults were thought by some to be a main reason why the tracking was stopped.

The benefit is that your not censoring someone that you don't have to. I'm not saying I have no problem with what he's saying. If this were occurring in public I would have no problem with this guy being detained or arrested because it is hateful but more importantly it is language that can invite violence. But this is a situation where he can be selectively muted. Nobody is being forced to read what he writes.

I'm just one of those people that believes censorship is a bad thing, usually much worse than whatever is being censored. It should only be used when absolutely necessary and this is not one of those situations.

Click a diff tab to not see chat, or mute a player. Problem solved.
