Hit and running Hit and running

01-29-2018 , 12:15 PM
Well, it's been several days now since I asked the forum about the ethics (or lack thereof) of hit and running, and since no one gave a good ethical reason against hit and running, I'm gonna continue to do it!

Have a blessed day.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it. If you successfully stacked someone, you're free to do as you want with the winnings including immediately leaving the table.

I can understand why some players might be annoyed by a hit&runner, but I have yet a hear an ethical argument against it. (Unless it's always unethical to annoy people )

In my case, I virtually never "stack" anybody, because I buy in short (30 big blinds) and leave when my stack reaches 50+ big blinds.

And if you happen to notice that player you have 'hit and run' notes on, after you've just won a pot from another player, then you've unilaterally hit and run a player by avoiding a hit and run player and now you've inadvertently caused a poker 'paradox' and time shift where the original hit and run player's actions get reversed and now YOU'RE the hit and run player.

Jesus. Just can't win at this game.

Actually, I like money a lot, which is why I am a short stacker. It's easier for me to multi-table when I don't have to make difficult decisions quickly for a large stack.

If poker wasn't just a hobby for me, I'd pour over the great books that 2+2 sells and buy in full like all the pros do.

I enjoy playing poker, but I don't particularly like studying it or even having to pay much attention to what the other players at my table are doing.

By the way, not even the most avid short-stackers that I'm aware of claim that short-stacking is the most +EV way to play. But it is a relatively easy way to play, and the risk of ruin is much lower than buying in full (given comparable bankrolls).

Hey, whatever works for you. I don't mind short stacks. I have a different strategy against short stacks than I do against full stacks, so meh.

I'd think that the typical short-stacker would be very easy for a competent player to exploit. For example, if there is a raise ahead of me, I either shove or fold. And since my shoving range is extremely tight, if I'm the button, the cutoff can open virtually any two cards since he essentially only has to worry about the blinds calling. (If the blinds are tight, the cutoff guy can practically make a living off poker by just stealing. )

LOL that just makes me wonder how much time OCD people waste correcting people on their grammar like they are stuck in English class. It's like Pavlov's dogs for nerds wasting time.
