Harassment Harassment

If you got off the site once in a while, maybe what people said in chat would not have an impact on your personal life. Once the site becomes your life i guess you can get caught up in the chat and take it personal.

I love it when players go on like that in chat. More entertainment for my buck !

Whining has replaced baseball as the national pastime.

edit: This is my 300th post. I am now officially a journeyman. (Just thought I'd mention it.)

I do miss Rawww harassing the tables...haven't seen him in a bit (although he may just be playing higher than me). Had a new guy called Big Baller Brand who has been a real joy in chat. He seems to have gone broke though unfortunately.

I saw raw a couple of days ago, can't remember the stakes of the top of my head, but chat was silent and I stuck around for a few hands one in which he lost. Nothing. So I wonder if his chat is still disabled by Global.

If anyone is seriously complaining about this I will ask the team to look into this but I feel that if this is the level of chat we are calling harassment we will be better off having no chat at all.

Just my 2 cents.
So, I just received a complaint from Global Poker support, for using foul language in chat. But the language I've used wasn't any worse than the language GlobalPoker_Joey responded to, which he said was "OK".

Granted, I've had multiple instances of using foul language, but TBH it was after reading Joey's post, and thinking using curse words is ok.

Maybe GP should be a little more clear and consistent about chat rules? Also, they warned me of getting my chat permanently disabled, but is one and final warning fair?

The only "foul language" in the chat Joey quoted was already **** out, Joey was addressing the notion that the chatter was harassing his target buy going on about him being broke and sad and using **** out words to describe him.

If you used foul language that appears as **** in chat, you're not going to have a problem with GP support I'd think. If you are circumventing the chat filter to get the foul language to not be **** out by added spaces, using a # for a letter, misspelling the word etc then you are going to potentially get flagged for this by support. Particularly if they get complaints about you.

As to your questions, sure 1 warning is fair. They don't have to give you any warning if they don't want to. But you yourself said you've had multiple issues with foul language so maybe it's the first time they said do it again and your chat will be banned, but it's clearly not the first time they've reached out to you. And no where in Joey's post did he say curse words are ok to use in chat. In fact he says the opposite. He says nothing BESIDES the already blocked out curse words and not capitalizing God seems to bad to him.

Why do you feel the need to use curse words in game chat anyway?

I don't think global has **** words when using foul language. I see people use foul language all the time and never seen **** come up instead of the word they used. Honestly i think its better that way. If you cant handle a "bad word" here and there poker probably isnt the game for you. I agree if it gets too outrageous they should be warned then potentially banned from chatting.

Nope. It was the first time they reached out to me. Please stop making assumptions.

And no, I did not use anything to circumvent chat filter.

Not making assumptions. I went off your post that said "Granted, I've had multiple instances of using foul language", maybe I misinterpreted what you were saying. My bad. If it's the first time they contacted you then maybe no one complained before, no idea.

Again, why do you feel the need to use curse words in the chat? Is this really that big a deal for you?

I know when Global first rolled out they had no chat filters. Given Joey's post it seemed like they did now, but maybe not. I rarely look at chat tbh, as I'm typically playing several tables and most of the time the chat is nonsense anyway. And I've never felt the need to test for a chat filter. I can exercise self control lol.

FWIW I tend to agree with your philosophy on handling bad words. It doesn't bother me personally if someone starts dropping f-bombs or what not. But I do think it makes for an unpleasant environment for many rec players who do care. They want to play some poker and have fun, and someone ranting **** in chat may be a turn off for some of them, especially if it's directed at them and one of their perceived bad plays**. So especially at Global with this being their target market, I fully support them not tolerating it.

**I have been cursed out and ranted at in chat before making fairly standard plays that the tilting fish didn't understand, personally I find it LOL when that happens.

I don't feel the NEED to use curse words, but at the time, I did. And so, why is it a big deal if I did? We're all adults, who are all capable of muting each other. I never used sexist or racist language. Just some f-bombs.

Also, this issue a bit of a big deal for me because I was given a warning of getting my chat permanently disabled, and yet, I don't know what is or is not allowed because of GP's inconsistent ruling on chat behavior. Like, am I at least allowed to complain or vent after a bad hand? Am I at least allowed to say "wow, that was such a bad play dude", etc?

If you didn't have a potty mouth you wouldn't have to even think about "what is or is not allowed."
02-06-2018 , 02:51 PM
LOL. Ok, you're a better man than me. You happy with that?

Some of us naturally have a potty mouth. I've been in the United States Navy for 19 years. You can't even imagine some of the conversations you hear on a daily basis from a bunch of Sailors sitting in the middle of the ocean. I'm now working at a facility that has civilians to wrap up my 20 year career and my "Sailor mouth" has gotten complaints from a couple of thin-skinned civilians more than once.

For some of us it's a difficult habit to kick, but I am getting better.

Thank you for your service.

Say all you want to your computer screen, just try not to type it into global's chat box.

Hi, riggity.

No, I'm not "better" at all. It's just that the choices we make have consequences, and one of the possible negative consequences of having a potty mouth is offending people. If offending people doesn't bother you, then it's basically "no harm, no foul" (unless getting banned from chat is something that you'd like to avoid).

I was on Global just the other day and i raised from UTG with 54o. (just bored + I RFI a lot)
Nit reg just calls from SB with AA. Flop came A23. We get it in. I hold and win.

Next time i raise it UTG on a different table same player starts up in chat stating what just happened on the other table. I think this is way worse then talking **** to players.

Worse as in you totally got in their head and should likely sit to their left and play every hand they are in because on the river of a 2296J board he can totally convince himself to lay down pocket Jacks because maybe you have quads. Like that kind of worse?

Also, well played sly brag
02-08-2018 , 02:49 PM
Meh, I can see where this would bother you, but really... don't let it. This nit reg is giving you free advertising. Opening 54o UTG is a losing play long term, so if you get that advertising on new tables for free that's not a bad deal really. Just adjust accordingly.

LOL @ nit reg flatting AA in the SB vs. an UTG open, his play is bad too and then he gets mad when he loses. Definite reg-fish.
