Harassment Harassment

Since the mute button does not work, is there anything I can do about a guy who is following me from SnG to SnG continually harassing me and cursing me out? Normally I just ignore people but this guy just won't stop harassing me for some reason. Can anything be done?

What did the site say when you contacted them?

I had a similar issue, not so much being followed but a bad reg spzaaing out. Guy would tell others how he thought they should play against me and just be nasty all around. I pm'd a rep here and it was handled promptly and professionally. I still see the player in my games but haven't had any issues for months. I know he had to be warned a couple times (he didn't get it the 1st time) but either they got the point across or muted his chat. They are very supportive of the rec player environment and want to protect it.

While the mute option acts like it isn't working it actually is working if you click it. I did it two days ago to a player (haven't tried it since the update). I also think in settings there is a mute spectators option, although i don't know where that is. I don't know if that works correctly or not.

Not sure if you multi-table or what but if you make each table small enough but still playable you'll be unable to read the chat. Doesn't fix the main problem which is the idiot spewing words but at least you want be able to see them.

The "mute spectators" button is on the settings page, under Table + Themes; the little gear icon at the top left corner.

You said, "(W)hile the mute option acts like it isn't working it actually is working if you click it." Are you saying that there's another mute button other than the mute spectators button? I haven't been able to find that at all. That would be very clutch for me, as I sometimes tilt-chat and then inevitably feel ridiculously terrible about it afterwards. A mute-all-chat button would be as good as it gets (in lieu of learning self-control).

In fact, I owe OP himself an apology for this behavior (although I'm definitely not the guy following him around and hassling him constantly!)

Sorry Jared. I'm a jerk. I'll try my best to eliminate my bad chat. (this is poker12)

resize your tables to where you cant see chat. or don't look at chat; you can choose a different tab. this is one of the few great things about global from a technical standpoint: you don't HAVE to look at chat!

There isn't a mute all table chat option that I am aware of. I am talking about on the individual player, there is an "Unmute Player" option when you left click them at the table. It will always say "Unmute Player" regardless of if they are muted or not. With that said, if you click this option, just once, it toggles the mute on for just that player. I did it to a guy that was going nuts in chat just a few days ago, and other players were obviously responding to him but I couldn't see what he was saying. With that said, I haven't tried to turn it back off, and I don't know if that setting is sticky to the player for you. Say the same player shows up a few days later at another table, does his chat started muted? I am unsure on that point. But hopefully it helps people be able to mute particular crazy people.

Side note, back in the day... (like 6 months ago on Global)... it use to say "Mute Player or Unmute Player depending on the setting but an update broke it. Maybe that could be fixed?

You guys are a bunch of cupcakes. Grow some thicker skin and ignore them or don't click the chat tab.

This is a good tip. I remember when my tables were bigger, I would see OP crying in chat all the time, now I don't see anything.

Literally don't click on the chat button...Even if the site doesn't block chat or you can't mute him just don't click it if you are getting your feelings hurt. Not that hard.

In the streets we trash talk and play HU. Not run to support. If a "bad reg" is telling players how to play vs you, shouldn't you welcome that?

My God. This +111111

Anyone complaining about someone's chat in a super tiny, almost impossible to read box (that is insanely easy to block) is a huge p***y and deserves to be ridiculed for being such a snowflake.

Snowflakes and cupcakes ITT. Let's go ahead and not adopt the language of the idiot right. At least nobody has been called a beta cuck yet.

Anyway, throughout the years I have seen people claim that since "regs" are in the "entertainment business", they therefore should never make any negative chat, AND ALSO they cannot get offended (or, at least, cannot indicate that in the chat box) when somebody tilt-chats at them. So, we have to take it, but can never give it back, just because we are better at poker than fish. F that.

All of this would be solved by the ability to block all chat. Seems like a pretty easy fix.

Ah, very helpful!

GlobalPokerAdmin, are auto-****-talking bots/programs against ToS on GP?
10-19-2017 , 07:19 PM
Anyone ever seen ItsF*ckingRawww lose it in chat? Wow.
10-19-2017 , 10:27 PM
They really do need to add a mute everything option though. I talk trash to people after people talk trash to me. It is a cycle that is vicious. It would be nice to have the mute option rather than having to ignore the little red dot that pops up or mute players individually everytime you sit.

That might be overstating it, but still, morons who constantly berate the fish can't be good for the games, and I think it would be +EV for everyone to report the worst offenders.

It's not about manning up, don't be a snowflake, etc., or that you can't ever respond negatively - but there are a few people on many sites that are just a complete cancer for the tables.

I don't think/find this true at all and it's an age old legacy. Fish are humans. Human nature is confrontational and competitive, which is exactly what "tapping the glass" promotes. I talk trash all day to fish and they play back. I also have several friends who'd I'd classify as recreational fish and you better believe when players talk trash to them, they start targeting and playing back, not running away scared to find a more enjoyable table. This isn't live poker.

in the end, it's stupid. people would rather listen to jokes and make them(cheerful table talk) than get berated and told how stupid and terrible they are at poker which will only lead them to second-guessing whether they want to play the next time they are debating it.

the negative comments seem to be pretty common at Global, which, at least, is a sign of good games

In love play I agree. Online I think many just ignore the chat entirely or they'll play back and have fun engaging in battle. Nobody online can be as annoying as the player live who you're stuck with at the table and you can't click a button to hide his chat and antics. Berating fish online is overrated. In fact all fish I know get more pissed when regs raise their limps opposed to berating them. They just wanna see flops man! Point is many other things that suck out enjoyment than table banter. Majority for fishes funds are limited and it's gotta be lost to someone. May as well engage them in banter so they're more prone to give it to me. It's a dog eat dog world.

Ahh.. the power of civil discussion.

The term "regs" gets used a lot, and people seem to confuse it with "winning player". There are winning regs and losing regs. It is almost to a person the losing/bad regs who lose their **** at the tables. The winning players understand bad play by their opponents is their bread and butter (even though they lose some individual hands as a result), and they don't do or say things that will discourage further bad play. Also I think saying the fish respond well to this and play back at you is short sighted. First, there's a difference between some trash talking which can be done in a good natured way, and berating someone like a douchebag. Being a douchebag is never good for business. Further, while you may rile up the target fish to play back at you, the other fish may not like what they're seeing and may quietly go away or play less, or even make an effort to learn to play better so as to not be your future target. You may get the best of your target in the short term, but everyone hates losing money to an ***hole, so it's a short term deal. People they like playing with, they will happily lose money to over and over again because they enjoy the experience. THAT is the true master of the people side of the game. Not the DB that thinks berating bad players is the key to profits.

Bad regs don't understand any of this, tend to think they are superior and infallible, and lose their stuff as a result when things don't go their way. As an aside I have seen several "regular" players on GP who routinely blow their gasket and berate players in chat, some seemingly after every beat they take. Every single one of them have huge leaks in their game, no way they are long term winning players.

As for what you OP can do about being chat stalked, just ignore them. Turn off observer chat, or just don't look. Certainly don't respond. Aholes get bored quickly when they are ignored as they get no entertainment from it.
