Would it be possible for you to copy/paste what the email says? I haven't gotten one and nothing's on the website yet. Thanks.

I emailed global support this morning asking about the series after seeing the ad floating around, this was their response:

Why does global always wait until the last minute to promote when they have an upcoming series. Whoever is in charge of promotion should be fired. They could make the site so much better if they didnt suck so bad.

It's not "last minute". Why the negativity? You don't have to play and now that I think about it I would rather not even see you at the tables.

Yeah his post was kind of negative rant-ish, but fwiw I agree he has a vaild point. This is certainly on the order of "last minute". The series is up on their website and announced here on the 24th and starts the 28th. This is not the first time the formal schedule and announcement came out within mere days of the start of a series.

His point (valid imo) is if you announced the schedule and series, oh, idk, 2 weeks or more in advance of the start, the word is more likely to get around in time for prospective new players to join the site and get involved. More time for advertising.

As an extreme example, look at the Venom... how the hell did WPN cover the 5M gtd on such a high buy in ticket, especially considering all the mess of problems they had with the conversion to their new software? The answer stems directly from the fact it was announced months ago and promoted heavily all the way.

That was my point. I play all the time anyway, but they could do a better job bringing new players to the site if they announced this series with more than a couple days notice.

To further that point, I sent a link to the goat page to a friend of mine who is a casual player but I know would like to play some of this. This was her reply, straight from a rec player's mouth:

"Its 4 days away? that is so soon. haha They suck at build up."

Without synchronized breaks I have to be at the computer non-stop during these tournaments. Can you do something about that?
07-24-2019 , 11:22 PM
No one here knows exactly how much money flows into the site, how long it stays, and when it exits. I am sure they have numbers crunched on when the best time to start advertising is.

My personal assumption is that the timing is actually quite good to announce it 4 days in advance. But I won't reveal why I believe that as it can only hurt me.

If, for example, they had announced the series 14 days in advance of the start instead of 4 days in advance, they could have 10 extra days with which to run sats to the larger tournaments. Meaning they'd have 10 extra days to rake more (twice), the target tournaments would be that much larger, which is better from marketing standpoint, and the target tournaments would be that much softer, which would be better for the players. Literally everyone would benefit.

I agree that announcing a little earlier would be better, specifically to allow them to run more satellites to the larger events and let some hype build up.

For the next event, I'd really love to see a 6:30 EST / 3:30 PST tournament in addition to or replacing the 10:30 EST tournament. Tournament schedule is sub-optimal for any East coast recreational players, I'd personally be playing every event if the start times weren't so late.

Question for some of the regulars - how long do these events typically last?

200 person field - duration = ?
300 person field - duration = ?
400 person field - duration = ?
500 person field - duration = ?

tbf to global, the start times are a tough balancing act. They are heavy about recreational players as their primary target audience. Most recs have a job. The late game now sucks for East coast players with a day job... hell I'm in Central and I usually skip it because it runs too late for me. But, it's a great time slot for the West coast players. An earlier time slot like you suggest would be great for us on the right hand side of the country, but the left hand side are still at work then.

I think the ideal solution is probably to add the earlier event to the list. Not replace the late game. Have an L early, L/M/H at the currently scheduled times, and an L Late. Each side of the country gets an extra game favorable to their time zone, and those who have the availability and want more games just for the sake of having more games, get an extra game.

Non-turbos you can expect to run about 4 hours. Turbos 2.5ish. As a comparison, the nightly 7.5K gtd which has typically 550-600ish runners and is an unlimited rebuy the first hour with 10 min levels, takes about 5 hours to complete.

I was honestly surprised the lows start at 4:30 PST and not 5 PST. Probably won’t be able to play those cause of work :/

Excellent idea on just adding an L early and leaving the late one, think that makes a lot of sense! Also appreciate the answer on the tournament durations. Usually I skip that nightly 7.5K but would definitely play it if it started an hour earlier. Will have to pick and choose on the GOAT schedule so I can still get a decent amount of sleep before work. May have to sacrifice a little sleep for one of those GOAT trophies though
