Chat Banned with no Warning Chat Banned with no Warning

03-19-2018 , 08:10 PM
Recently my chat was banned with no warning. I believe I may have used an inappropriate word now and then, but players use inappropriate and insulting language all of the time on this site.

The site needs to change their policy regarding the policing of chat. At least a warning should be customary. Or institute some kind of filter so we know what words are not allowed.

I know exactly who reported my chat because of how infrequent I have actually used any offensive language. This was certainly not a case of continuous aggression or harassment.

So you admit that you used foul language in chat and your defense is pointing the finger at all of the others that use foul language, as well? Your defense is weaksauce.

damn just as i was thinking global was taking the pro stance of "its poker, stop whining and/or use the mute function"
03-19-2018 , 09:56 PM

I expected this reply. My response is that the site is choosing to selectively enforce rules, which is not fair.
Yes, I recognize life is not fair. In addition to pleading my case, I am posting to let everyone else know that despite what appears to be no enforcement, one crybaby is all that is necessary for them to remove chat. And I say cry baby because the individual in question in fact harassed me enough at the tables that there is no way anything I said to them was undeserved, especially given the fact that they don't even filter out any four letter words.

Yeah, I tried to mute the individual in question but their mute function doesn't work.

Emailed them.

Yeah, I know. This player was actually following me from table to table. I was attempting to avoid them.

This is a blessing in disguise. Chat can distract players from playing their “A” game. Global did yiu a favor. At least that’s my take on it.

Not that this helps a ton, but mute has always worked, it just was labled "Unmute Player" no matter the actual status it was in. With that said, I believe this is fixed now as well, but I haven't tested it recently, I don't often need to use the mute function.

The above X 100

We are all adults. If you get bothered by some chat then don't read the chat or mute the player.

Stop crying to support about such a stupid issue. Yes there are some cases that should be reported ( I myself report none ) but they are very rare.

One of Global Pokers Pro's of playing on the site is the chat. Its another form of entertainment to go alone with the poker aspect. Too many sites have too strict chat rules. Don't turn Global Poker into one of those.

I 99% agree w/ this, but there are occasional players who write stuff that's so over-the-top awful that even seeing it once is going to hurt some rec players' experiences on the site, and that's bad for everyone. Most sites draw way too strict/weird of a line imo, but there is most definitely a line.

It doesn't sound like OP was over that line, but I'd really enjoy seeing a full transcript *popcorn*

I honestly wish I had a way of having my chat banned by choice. Same as self exclusion from playing that some sites have.

However, anyone who gets offended by chat to the point of emailing support is lowest form of human scum and doesn't deserve to share the same air I breathe.

I am pretty sure some players have had Global remove their chat privileges. SitNSpin aka poker12 I am pretty sure has done this. You should email support and see what they have to say.

In general, I agree with the bolded part. On the other hand, if a poker site ToS specifically prohibits abusive chat, I don't think that one is "human scum" for emailing support reporting a player who is violating the ToS.

If chatbanning keeps the fish from swimming away, then I'm all for chatbanning.

banning chat abusers vs eliminating the function all together is different. I think we may be having a miscommunication? I agree with Lagtight's post and yours too FP1.

I agree. Chat abuse is bad but we need a better definition of what chat abuse is. Some swearing and and f bomb here and there shouldn't get you banned.
It's nothing that you won't hear at the casino. But when people go overboard and start insulting and threatening I do think they should be punished.

+1 and I think the bolded part is a good start for guidelines in this area.

They're probably trying to protect the adolescence and minors within the site with foul language. Oh..wait..what..minors not allowed to..ok ..ok..
Disregard.

No seriously though, there is a level of obscenity coming from some players against another player for whatever reason that should never be said within a public Arena. I was not aware of that the mute function was finally working but I generally ignore derogatory comments. So if it gets really bad I'm okay with a player reporting to the site of really really offensive language and having that players chat privileges banned.
What I'm not happy about is the fact that they took away the Watcher chat function. I've got a lot of friends and other players that used to like to rail me from time to time and now that's gone. Not sure why that was taken away.

You're probably "TheGreatGame" on Global and referring to me. If not, TGG should be called out regardless for constantly sitting HU at tables and sitting out soon as anyone decent sits. Stop bum hunting you giant nits. And I only ever reported one player and it was TheGreatGame, largely because he's a bum hunting nit and the minute I sit down, I get called a homophobic slur.

Then stack him after the table fills up and call him a heterophobic slur!
