What are the odds of this? I'm playing in a pot limit Omaha high only game. Every 30 minutes we do what they call a bomb pot. In case you're not familiar with that, everybody puts money into the pot pre-flop. There's no betting before the flop. There are two separate flops. Then there's betting. I'm dealt J755. One flop is A85. The other flop is 787. Three of us end up getting all of our money in on the flop. I'm up against KQ102 who only has a flush draw on one board and absolutely nothing on the other board. The other player has me crushed with Q688 for a set of eights over my set of fives on one board and eights full of sevens to my three sevens on the other board. I have one out on each board. I hit quad fives on one board and quad sevens on the other board. We're trying to figure out what the chances of that are.

For both to happen, if we start with the A85, you needed a 5 and a non-7. That was 32/C(34,2). Then on 787 you needed a 7, which given the other success was 2/32. Combined it was 2/561 to happen. If that's less rare than you expected, it's because we know 18 of the cards.

Worst possible? No, two runner-runners would have been worse. Perhaps some crazy multiway preflop all-in scenarios as well.

Thank you for the reply. That makes sense. Runner runner two perfect cards in Holdem is definitely rarer and I've been on the bad side of that before.

I've been on both sides of that two perfect catch thing, won one lost one. I think it's 986:1, if I remember right ... the only real long shot in poker I often said. One outers are nothing. That one-outer on each of two boards if only one card to come, say shipping post-turn instead of post-flop, is similar I guess.
