This is referring to the PLO hand rankings from propokertools generated here http://www.propokertools.com/orderings/ohordering.txt
I was playing around with the rankings in python and noticed:

(A9)97 is ranked 3192 best hand, while (A7)99 is ranked 3502 rank (out of 16432. The parenthesis denote suited). Is this just variation in the calculation? These hands seem to me completely identical equity wise (in terms of on a full board runout), whether against single hands or multiple hand ranges.
There are many examples of this throughout - hands that seem identical to me but have quite a bit of ranking difference. Another example is (A5)JT and (AJ)T5 .. are these not identical hands equity wise?

Give Hero (A9)97 and give Villain (A7)99.

Isn't it true that Hero has more equity since the 9 of the suit of Villain's suited A7 must be in Hero's hand? While the 7 of the suit of Hero's suited A9 cannot be in Villain's hand (occasionally it will be in Hero's hand).

That is, in this instance Hero will make more flushes than Villain just due to one more suited cards available to come on the board.

There may be more to it, but that is what I see on first glance.

Thanks for the response whosnext.

I did overlook that - same principle for AsKh > AdKs equity advantage in holdem. That could be all there is to it, although I'm skeptical because in their detailing of coming up with rankings ( http://pokercoder.blogspot.com/2006/...-of-hands.html ) they are running simulations of each hand multiway against other 'good' hands not against each other (although they would be apart of that range of hands). I wouldn't expect as big of rankings jump for that type of simulation, but I can't think of anything else to explain it other than simple variance in the simulation results.

(A7)99 plays way better than (A9)97, with (A7)99 you have one keycad to hit on the flop (the suited 9) that gives you a set and (at least) a three-flush.

(A9)97 cant flop you such joker.

Its not the answer you are looking for, but (A7)99-kind of hands are a big moneymaker, that I would rank high.
