Example of EV from both hero and villian Example of EV from both hero and villian

As I understand it, poker is a zero sum game, meaning that if the hero is making a +EV action, then the villain is -EV equal to what the hero gained. I was hoping to get an example of EV calculation from both hero and villain perspective. Is it the same calculation but reversed?

That only applies if hero and villain are the only ones contributing to a pot. Two players can be +EV in the same situation.

Simplest example is all in preflop in a heads up match, say AA vs. KK, effective stacks $100. For simplicity take exactly 80% probability for a win with AA.

ev(AA) = 0.8 * $100 + 0.2 * (-$100) = $80 - $20 = $60
ev(KK) = 0.2 * $100 + 0.8 * (-$100) = $20 - $80 = -$60
