What to look for playing live and how not to get exploited? What to look for playing live and how not to get exploited?

Yeah i'm new to live poker. I was just wondering what should i be. Looking for when I start playing live. I have read Mr. Elwoods books. Have a idea of what to look out for. Put so much is going on. Have a hard time getting the most. Out of the vast amounts of information going on. At the table. Also it's like now of days players are so good. It seems like they can exploit everything. Also wondering whats the best course of action. To be able hide as many tells as possible. And also be able able to process. The vast amounts of information. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Don't try to do too much, too early. you are going to be overwhelmed with information. Until you get comfortable with the mechanics of the game and the pace, focus on playing ABC poker. The absolute best time to focus on getting player reads is when you have folded preflop.

Most live reads do not tell you a ton of actionable information. they primarily tell you if a player is stressed or relaxed, but that can often be counterintuiitive. A player may be stressed with a monster because he is anxious to get paid, or relaxed witha bluff because he has already decided that he is done for the night.

I mentally make note of any player who commits an action (whether it is a tell, or a action decision) that is expotively bad. For example, if I see a player twice call pot size bets with a flush draw, I will label him as a exploitable on draws, and file that away for later use. Likewise, if I see him do something, like posture with a bluff, I will make note of it. Be veery wary, though, of believing that players will always act the same way in the same or similar situations. Experienced players will mix up their actions and tells to prevent other players from getting reads on them.

Also recommend Caro's and Navarro's books. Look for simple tells, like leaning away from the cards, arms and hands protecting the torso or face, or complete stillness to signify fear or stress, and look for relaxed posture, leaning into the table, bouncing hands or legs to indicate excitement or relaxation.

Tells tend to be more authentic the earlier they occur. If you see a reflexinve reaction the instant the flop is revealed, this is more likely to be authentic than a reaction that occurs 20 seconds after the player sees the flop. Remember that everyone has read the classic books on tells, so most of them know how to fake it.

I think it's important to remember to not force this stuff. Even in best case scenarios, it should be pretty infrequently you actually use tells to change a decision. If you're not sure about them, it should be even more infrequently that happens.

I'd say the two things to focus on are:

•*Behaviors from players directly behind you (just to get more focused on specific players as opposed to everyone)
• Behaviors from players making pretty big bets on turn/river (as those are more polarized situations so you're more likely to maybe notice some imbalances people have)

Hope that helps a little. But mainly I think it's important to have a very realistic idea of how often you're even best-case gonna be able to use tells.
