An email I got and my response to it. Thought it was interesting enough to share.

From Marco Locicero:

Quote:
First of all, thanks for your books. I read all of them multiple times and I love them. They really helped my game. Regarding the chapter "Statement about an opponent's call", I have to argue that most of the time I say something like 'Anyone else want to call?', I usually have a strong hand like AA or KK and lot of players have called in a situation where I wanted only one opponent. Other than that I think your book considers everything perfectly.
My response:

Quote:
Yeah the things I write about are just general patterns and obviously
there will be player specific differences. I do believe that for that the
general meaning will be what I've said, but of course for you it may be
different. I also think the more callers there are the less the statement
means anything. Like if there's a bunch of callers and someone says
something like that it could easily be AA or KK but if it's like two
callers it will be more meaningful and be more likely to weaken the range.

Speaking of player specific deviations, I've had a lot of players tell me
that they stare at strong hands more then weak hands, and I believe them
but I also am quite sure the general meaning of long looks at cards
meaning weakness is pretty generally reliable. Just a similar kind of
thing. The nice thing is you only have to see a player deviate from the
common meaning once to know that you shouldn't trust that behavior or that
it may have the opposite meaning.
Part of his response:

Quote:
I fully agree that a deviation from a player's particular behavior means much
more than the common behavior that most players have.

I think this is more applicable before the action.
For example if CO raises and BTN is thinking about raising or folding. If CO were to say "here we go again", it's more likely he's:

A) Not enjoying being 3b right now
B) Making BTN aware that "he's being watched" so that BTN doesn't do anything out of flow.

After a call I think a player with a good, vulnerable hand (AK, KK, QQ, pre, or TPTK on a wet board) might be inclined to make a frustration statement, even with strong hands.

If someone punches the guy next to him prior to his turn does he have a monster hand?

Regarding statements PF .. I think that if a V c-bets after making a statement then he still feels he has the best hand or best draw.

Certainly not making an action doesn't mean he's weak as it could be a trap or he actually is weak ... I just think that 'the guts' it takes to c-bet after making a statement is generally a pretty good indicator of a strong hand. GL
