Taking / acting a longer than usual time to make a bet after studying flop?

When a weaker player ponders at the flop, and suddenly takes much longer than usual to make a bet, is this weak or strong?

strong means weak; weak means strong.

"geez, this is a close one. I can't think of the correct action".......when I'm playing my fishiest drunk-poker, it's best to fold to my stall.

Conversely if I inta-bet all three streets, I'll be on a bluff almost every time.

I think it sort of depends on the board. If there's a constellation that can really constitute a tricky spot for a lot of his range then taking a long time (assuming he's a thinking player in the first place) might not mean much.

you need more information.

ask your opponent if he is bluffing because he took a long time to make a bet.

if he shugs his shoulders while answering you there's a good chance hes bluffing.

you can also ask a different question.

have you got a Ace on a ace board? have you got a good hand? have you got the flush? and so on.

some people shrug their shoulders when they are trying to mislead you. (lie to you).

Depending on the context it can mean a marginal hand. Decisions with strong or weak hands are much easier to make so they don't typically require much thought. But when a player takes time to make a bet, that can indicate the player was trying to decide how to play the hand. This is more likely to be the case on a dry flop, where players can more easily quickly decide how to play a strong or weak hand.

Things are a bit more complicated on wet boards where playing a strong hand isn't quite as straightforward. For example, a player might take a few seconds to decide what to do with 88 on a QT8 monotone flop.

If it seems affected it's the nuts, if it seems spontaneous it's weak. Big difference and there is an art to reading that maybe, but often the difference is blatant.
