This is from the YouTube video "tom durr Dwan strikes again-86o vs Aks (Howard Lederer)

So Howard raises 3.5k, Dwan 3 bets to 11.2, Howard repops him to 36k and Dwan starts thinking. He asks how much Howard has left and I immediately think he is doing what Gabe Kaplan says he is trying to do which is figure out if it's financially worth the gamble but a strong hand would most likely not ask that info. Ever I don't think.

Is it safe to say this is a verbal tell that is pretty accurate?

My opinion is that at a the stakes you and I play, only AA will not ask........ if the player is good. If the player at our stakes is very good, he will ask with all hands. But basing a tell you can use in your game off what you see Dwan do against HL is a recipe for disaster.

Knowing stack sizes is a crucial component of poker, wouldn't you agree? With a hand like AA, I need to assess how to get villain's chips. Preflop or post-flop, where is my fulcrum against this specific villain. Also, are we sooooo deep that AA actually shrinks in value?

It had nothing to do with Tom Dwan or the show. In reading poker tells zack says something along the effect that everything you do at the table is giving away info in one form or another. I think in that specific situation no matter the stakes it reduces the chances that a player in dwans position would be less likely to have a strong hand.

I never thought about this. If I have AA and I'm going to end up flatting a 3-bet or 4-bet I never ask how much they have left or ask them to show their chips. I should start doing this in this spot whether I have AA or 67ss.
