Poker tells mobile app

I'm thinking of creating a poker tells mobile app for iPhone and Android. Talking to a developer tomorrow. My initial conception is pretty simple; just a series of entries for specific behaviors, with a lot of cross-linking/cross-referencing.

But I wanted to ask a wider audience to see if there might be some cool ideas I hadn't thought of.

Also curious if anyone has any favorite poker apps they like, maybe even just design-wise, so I could check them out. Thanks for any ideas/feedback.

Re: Poker tells mobile app

I just have a free version of the Poker Odds Calculator App on my phone. It doesn't take up a lot of space and it stores some of my last entries. It works for both 2 and 4 card hands HU or multi-way.

Would your App be both a reference and a 'note taker'? Seems interesting .. I would probably use it at the table a bit for sure.

Tough things with Apps these days ... no ads and no pushes for me, but I know that's not the way of the world. GL

PS .. We need to get this forum rolling again. I don't have much new myself. I haven't really noticed too much on PokerGo streams, but I did feel 'sorry' for the one girl that was obviously letting herself get pushed around by the others. I think she probably is a good tournament player, but she was either playing scared money or just not geared up for the aggressive style of cash play. GL

Sorry for the late response Z.

Not sure what uses for apps are though since I am in dino age group. But if you are suggesting a app that can "secretly" take a pick of a player and then in a note section has checkboxes for behavior..... I might have interest. Seems.... creepish though, but that may just be my generation.

I could visualize an expert system that asked a series of quiestions to gauge the context and baseline the player, then give you interpretations of tells and a reliability grade

If you really wanted to get ambitious, you could do the above (ask a series of questions to set up the context), ask for the tell, then ask, after the fact, what the correct interpretation was. If enough players use that, you would dvelop a pretty big database of players reads, tells, and their actual meaning.

Oh no, no pics or anything like that. At its most complex it would just be a way to track players' behaviors in a database kind of format. You'd just name a player 'Bob W' or whatever and, if you played with them frequently, be able to see some common things over time. The hard part would be creating a pre-made category of behaviors that would allow easy entry and also be meaningful over time. That's the hard part.

Yeah, click, click, click little checkboxes is way simpler than thumbing in a paragraph

This sounds like a great idea to me, interested to know how your discussions go

Re: Poker tells mobile app

a behavior in itself does not say anything about a tell. It concerns patterns that people have in different situations. You should adjust your app on this patterens.

Will be intrest in youre developments

Re: Poker tells mobile app

Sounds interesting especially if app users have access to database results, i.e., tell X corresponds with property Y Z% of the time over sample size S.

If you get enough data it would be immensely useful.

You could start with a basic hand recorder (e.g. something like the one in poker bankroll tracker stats section) and have a "tells" button for a player at a specific decision point where you select from a list of predefined tells. Then the hand results are compared to the tell recorded and added to the database.

Of course a list of tells would be huge so to make it usable you would have to break it down into a series of questions and lists, something like "select tells player role => nonaggressor, select verbal/nonverbal => nonverbal, select category of behavior => defensive behavior, select tell => holds out chips as if ready to call"

I didn't get far. Had a lot of grandiose ideas but then started doubting whether it'd be worth the effort, and whether anyone would actually use it.

I do still want to do at least a fairly minimal one (mainly just a reference guide), but I've for now given up on my idea to build a big data kind of approach to have people putting in tells and looking at the data across many users.

Anyone who'd be up for collaborating on this, I've put a good amount of thought into these ideas, so hit me up if you want to talk.

Re: Poker tells mobile app

I think it would be a great addition to a broader App of some sort .. Like one that included push/shove charts, ICM chops or other poker stuff.

Like yesterday with DNegs .. T7s 'standard' shove and the A6 'OK' call of the 20+ BB shove? Really? A non-straight/flush making Ace is a 'good idea' call of 33% of my stack? Perhaps that's why I'll never be 'whatever' in poker ... GL
