Going back for more chips... Going back for more chips...

I only play 1/2.

In a few recent trips I've seen this happen and wondering what y'alls experience has been.

Basically, on the river villain cuts out 50 or 60, then goes back for another 15 or so 5 at a time. I feel like this is mostly a bluff.

Like they are trying to look like they are squeezing out more value but are really trying to see what it takes to get you to fold?

I've only tested this theory twice and was right both times.

I think the opposite is generally considered true. When somebody adds chips, it's probably a value bet. When they remove chips, it's more likely to be a bluff.

Of course this behavior varies from person to person. But I don't think most people are thinking about deceiving you when cutting out their bet, just picking what they think is the best size. And removing chips from the initial chips is considered bluffy as the guy wants to give himself a better risk/reward scenario, whereas adding chips he's just upping his value bet.

If the guy is slowly cutting chips, looking up at you for your reaction, then adding more chips, yeah that might be bluffy, but I think the critical ingredient is whether he's gauging your reaction or just cutting chips.

I could be wrong. ZACH tell us the answer.
