Dealer Telling Players Cards on Flop, Turn,River Dealer Telling Players Cards on Flop, Turn,River

I was either told or read somewhere that players at the poker table were required to read the cards on the flop, turn, or river themselves. They couldn't ask the dealer to tell them (or ask another player). I can't find anything about this in TDA rules or anywhere I've looked. If someone sits down who refuses to wear their glasses and continually asks someone to tell them the cards on the table, is there a rule about this?

Where I play dealers tend to announce the cards as they are dealt but not suits e.g “jack three ten”.

If someone asked a specific announcement for every card, I don’t know what would happen, never seen it occur.

Don’t see why that wouldn’t be allowed as long as the dealer is only saying the rank and suit if each card rather than things like “there are four spades on board”

This is rarely because a player “refuses” to wear glasses. It’s because they likely didn’t have a option to pick their seat.

AFAIK there is no rule stating that a player must read the cards for themselves. Moreover, (IANAL but) in the US, ADA compliance likely means that any player with a visual disability who asks for assistance would need to be provided with exactly what you describe.

What a dealer cannot and should not do is say things like "straight would be the nuts" or "any heart makes a flush" as part of their description or in response to a question.

Depending on the table, if a person who was having trouble seeing the board showed up, I would imagine someone sitting near the 5 seat would offer to switch seats.

At Foxwoods in tournaments (where people can't change seats) I have seen dealers call out cards to a player who can't see and is in the 2,3,8, or 9 seat, on more than one occasion.

At the cage they will usually allow a player to get a different seat assignment to compensate for a disability (like vision or a wheelchair).

Guy who plays in our room on a flat bed (quadriplegic). Has an assistant hold cards and bet for him, dealer reads out board for him. Good player too

^^ Serious question: how positioned is he on his flat bed to play? On his back or face down? I'm just curious.

I have seen it. Every card is specifically announced.

We don't announce unless there's a request. Once someone requests every card rank and **** will be announced and dealers are supposed to tell their relief to do the same. Sometimes the information doesn't get passed; that's handled the first hand when the player makes their needs known.

We can be sued for not providing the this accommodation. There isn't really a defense against it; it is reasonable and doesn't cost the business undue hardship.

I've seen this done before by request

Anyone who has a problem with it is a jackass

Obviously the dealer can't say things like 4 spades on board, ten makes a straight etc

On his back: he can turn his head toward the table. He is always given an end seat (seat 2,3 or 8,9) so his bed fits in the room. Other players have no problem with it and are accommodating.
