To go after the Grammar in the previous post a bit ... The 'big' names do make their living 'from' poker, but not necessarily from 'playing' poker completely.

I believe DNegs is mixed up in a lot of 'background' money makers. He had a stake in 'The Big Game' and I think he has a stake in PokerGo somehow. Certainly he still gets an annual stipend from Poker Stars even without USA online presence. PHell has his brand and although he touts his charity accomplishments he probably gets paid to host these events by using his track record of fund raising as part of his resume.

People who are addicted often don't have balance in their lives. People who are driven often have the same imbalances. Addicts typically 'need' more of something in their lives, someone who's driven can feel like they need 'to do' more in order to maintain or improve. GL

I don't know your definition of "high level" but Hellmuth is clearly making money playing poker. I just checked the Global Poker Index, here's a 2018 to-date summary:

In PH's case by "he isn't high level" I pretty much mean he isn't very good compared to the actually good players.

I look at a question like that the other way around. I only play NLHE MTTs, usually as deepstacked as possible. If all goes well, I'll be playing for many hours. I think about whether doing X (for example, being on the road for several hours) will make me too tired play winning poker.

That's applying rationality to your game choices, which makes it more likely you'll be a winning player.

I tend to only think of the risk of addiction as it applies to cash games (I'm not a tournament player). I wonder whether MTTs have the same risks as other forms of gaming.

First and worst is acknowledging the problem, which you already did, so congratulations, you got the worst thing figured out. Second is to ask someone for help, like your family. They will know what to do, then try to improve your financial situation if you have one. After all, you need to tell yourself that gambling is not a way to make money, its not healthy for you and you need to stop it for good in order to move on. Then, its easy = never play agai. When you have the urge to play, tell your family to help you or there are many articles or sites to help people with gambling addiction, just dont worry, youre not alone in this. I have read many other articles about problem with gambling and I have read forums where people try to overcome this, so least I can do is to suggest sites and articles and tell people what to do depending on that. good luck, kind stranger.
