some companies forbid employees from discussing salaries and bonus amounts. Long ago I worked at Sears and the policy was if you told another employee your salary or bonus you were terminated.

Some people NEVER discuss money or even how much they make or what they paid for their house, car, etc. My BIL is a pharmacist and never discusses money. I don't care, and my wage is posted in the Union contract, but others are actually offended when I tell them how much I make, so I stopped doing it.

Visiting the rust belt once my uncle implored me to not talk money because all these people are poor and it would make them feel bad to know how well off I was.
