Before he answers that you'll have to clarify between "gender" and "sex".

Dressing yourself is not for the purpose of pleasing yourself, it's showing respect to others. It doesn't need to be suit and tie but simply making yourself presentable.

Usually adult men have more respect for each other than boys who are basically putting on enough clothes so nobody can see their balls and nipples. By taking the small effort to dress properly you show respect to the venue and people in it. It has nothing to do with how successful you are but it does correlate with age.

I'm guessing Polk thinks he actually looks ripped or something in the tank top, when in actuality he looks more like an obese Vanessa Selbst.

He's made fun of himself in his YT videos for how he looks in a tank top and specifically saying "it'd be like wearing a tank top without having muscles" when comparing whatever. He's very aware that it's not the most flattering thing in the world.

Actually it does. In almost all cultures and societies people of different social status and different age dress differently. Just imagine a billion dollar CEO holding a conference talk with a baseball cap turned backwards or a hollywood actress receiving an Oscar in an Adidas training shirt.

Polk's dress code or lack of it is rather disappointing since he has the reputation of being one of the best poker players in the world atm yet he dresses like a low status late teenage chav. So he is actually belittling himself. Could be a deliberate move though.

In order to attract more people to the game of poker we need to move it away from a degeneric/loser/gambler image definitely. Polk's tank top not helping...

Personally would really like to see dress code like in snooker or Wimbledon for the WSOP.

Doug Polk is a big fraud. He believes himself be a massive celebrity when really nobody outside of a casino would ever give him two glances on the street. He will never be a transcendent poker figure to the world like Jesus Ferguson, Hellmuth, Mike the Mouth, Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson and more.

kinda stupid argument but i actually do kindaaa agree about the showing respect to others thing i guess. i dunno maybe that's not it exactly but a lot of my non-poker friends have been interested in this years event and coverage and i know when they see doug or i tell them they should root for him the overwhelming response is something along the lines of "that douche with the tank top and fauxhawk?"

Doug is great for poker. And he definitely doesn't believe he is a celebrity outside of the poker/casino/gambling crowd. Please submit some differing evidence that he is a big fraud, sir.

The thing about Doug Polk is this. It's really easy to think he's a douche/bro (well he's kind of a bro, which is fine..) after your first 10 minutes of exposure to him from a Twitch stream or YT video (probably you'd get that negative impression more from his Twitch streams which he doesn't do anymore). However after further exposure and after actually watching and listening to him, he's really easy to like, and difficult to dislike. He's actually very self deprecating, self aware, fairly humble, and has a great sense of humor. Yeah, Doug is the man. You're likely jelly.
