Doug should update the video if possible, Phil Hellmuth offered to buyin James Campbell to the 2019 Main Event. Kuddos to Phil for stepping up and making things right, and admitting he f'd up and doing something about it.

It's cool that he plans to give the guy $10k, but this is a non-apology. In the same breath he's basically insisting that he did nothing wrong.

"I believe you lose the hand anyway"

It's also super weird to say he's doing this "because I respect fireman". Like it's a generous gift that Phil deems him worthy of, not reparation for any sort of wrongdoing.

Is he actually going to pay up? I doubt he gave the guy $10k already, guess we'll have to wait until next year to find out. If you've been paying attention to the news for the last 2+ years you should be familiar with the behaviour of a narcissist.

Absolutely agree. Huge fan of Polk and Ivey. Maybe Doug is trying to be too kind.

I don’t know man, I’m not gonna parse thru his words in this case and criticize this or that, he’s offered to buy Campbell in to next year’s Main Event, that’s a good thing. We shouldn’t rail on PH for doing wrong but not give him credit when doing right, ya know?

Didn't he cold call a 3bet out of the BB with A9s? Seems like a rec fireman to me. Guess that was still a good play in 2009?

That's simply not true. He can be both apologetic for his actions while at the same time insisting that the other guy would have lost the hand anyway. One does not contradict the other.

And to your specific point that he's insisting that he did nothing wrong...when interviewed about this issue, the very first words out of his mouth were a direct apology to the other player as well as a statement that he (Phil) was 100% wrong. And although he tries to rationalize his behavior throughout the course of the 5 minute interview, he continues to state multiple times that he was in the wrong and out of line for what he did. He also says that he deserved to be penalized for his actions.

@DC2LV the big thing is paying the man 10k so kudos to Phil, but the fact is that Phil has apologized for his “outburst” but still laughably insists he did nothing unethical that influenced the hand. He’s never able to admit anything along those lines, including here.

The interesting thing is how often you’ll hear him tell another player to “ask all the top pros” when there is a dispute, and yet when all the top players agree that he’s in the wrong he chooses to ignore that fact.

That is simply not true. You are conflating two separate things. Phil admitted his rant and telegraphing of hand strength was entirely inappropriate, against the rules, and said he deserved a penalty for it.

He went on to say that if the Russian had folded, he was calling with 77, and the kid would've lost anyway. Now it's very debatable whether he would've actually called or not had the Russian folded. But nowhere did he "insist he did nothing unethical", in fact he admitted quite the opposite.

I get what your saying and 10k is obviously no joke but cmon cuz he respects fireman? What possible difference does that make in terms of the 10k if it's purely retribution. He apologized yes but always with qualification.

So being in position, STFU and wait. I've played live 3/6 lhe a handful of times, and even I control myself better than this "professional". He's literally won all the NL tourneys and yet can't control himself in this situation? Reminds me of the Shawn Sheikan explosion where he folded pre and would've flopped 2 pair v Mike Matusow. He wants to be seen as a professional at the top of his field yet acts like this? You can't have it both ways Phil.
