I don't think so... I believe he tweeted several months ago he was considering playing the SHRB instead of One Drop (mostly because there was no rake lol).

Hopefully they can get another premier league figured out. Top pros shouldn't have to disappoint their fans due to sitting out the wsop.

Doug should've bought an old used RV and had it painted with his website, then parked it next to DNegs. But I guess the Rio/WSOP could've then had it towed.

"Been spending a lot of my time lately over the last couple months thinking about what I want to do with my life in both short term and long term horizons

Unfortunately, I've figured out more so what I dont want to do, rather than the inverse

Poker feels like it's in a weird spot for me at the moment. I love the game, and am thankful for the opportunity it has given me, but the problem is I dont enjoy playing anymore. It sort of hurts to say that, because I still love poker conceptionally, but I dont enjoy playing

I think it's a combination of being successful enough to not have to work anymore, the game being fairly repetitive, and growing interests in other areas.

Overall I'm just going to play it by ear, but if I'm not enjoying playing I wont be in the mix

Crypto also seems a bit weird at the moment, because while I have a much stronger interest in that space, it's tough having a much more limited expertise

The comedy side of it is great, as there is a ton of absurdity to work with, but I also feel like as a content creator you have a responsibility to help and protect your audience. Because of this, I often feel on the fence about creating content/promoting digital assets I believe in. I dont want to have people lose a lot of money because of my opinions that may not be informed enough.

There is a stark contrast in my general philosophy when it comes to how I operate compared to many other creators in the space, but I've always cared a lot about trying to help and protect people.

I think ultimately thats why I try to create my own businesses, run my own show, and stand up for what I believe in. Growing up my parents didnt have a lot of money or success, but they are amazing people who always taught me right from wrong. That has, and will always be, the most important aspect for how I operate, and that means I will always stand up for the people who cant protect themselves, even if that means spending thousands of dollars on a billboard for some lol's

This is probably starting to seem like a bit of a ramble at this point, most likely because I'm rambling.

Neither of the above points mean I wont be involved in poker and crypto, honestly I see crypto being more likely because I'm more interested in it but I wouldn't rule anything out. I have been enjoying working on my health and taking it easy lately. Maybe I'll do a lot more of that, maybe I wont. Who knows, maybe this summer I'll play some WSOP, or make a bunch of crypto videos, or not do much of anything.

The main point of this post is I just want to let you guys know what I'm up to and my current perspective. I am thankful to be in such a flexible position, and I am also excited for some upcoming launches with both Upswing and Coin Central. But what I'll be up to day to day, I'm still figuring out "

Sad to see dougs taking that tourney knockout by dnegs so hard. this is a really transparent and whiney post but i really hope he doesnt quit and keeps grinding. if your getting bored play higher lol .

He might start enjoying again if he jumped in studying solvers and taking shots at high stakes. Beating high stakes (or even 500z) is a goal to work toward and a winning graph there would be great for marketing upswing. Could even throw in a prop bet a la Timex.

So basically the timeline is:

DNegs Pwns Doug >> Doug Rage Quits >> Doug Posts Introspective Self Reflective Statement

So what's next? I say he'll finish wiping the tears and jump back into WSOP real quick.

You never forget your first love Doug, you never do!!

Doug -

I’ve followed you over the years and am a big fan of yours. I genuinely like you as a person from your videos, and your vids have been a constant source of information and comedy during this time when you’ve been making them.

One thing that is pretty apparent is you, like everyone else, enjoy getting your ego stroked. You always seemed to really relish in being “the best” when you were at least one of the best; moreso I think than other players who have achieved the same. You like to come across as cocky, arrogant, and condescending at times - which I personally love because I think it’s hilarious, and most of the time I think you’re right.

This latest post to me seems more like an excuse because you’ve found out that you’re not as “good” at two things you want to be good at. I think if your vids were reaching the numbers you wanted to, and if you were getting interviewed on big networks, you’d be singing a different tune. Same with poker - if you were winning huge in these televised games, if you had succeeded easily at your bankroll challenge rather than clearly struggled, and if you were winning these big buyin tournaments - I think you wouldn’t be making this post.

As it reads, it kind of sounds like excuses for the above things not going the way you wanted them to. I think stating that one of the reasons is “I’m successful enough to not have to work anymore” is a total copout. When you truly enjoy something, your relative success doesn’t have bearing on it appealing or not appealing to you.

Then again, maybe this is why so many financially independent people struggle with finding purpose. I have much less money than you, but thanks to some good crypto decisions operate with a degree of autonomy, and because of that find myself getting disillusioned with things from time to time. So maybe you’re just a more extreme case because of your greater financial freedom.

I don’t know obviously. I’m just saying what it looks like from here. Whatever you decide, I sure hope you stick around, because you’re one of the (it not the) most enjoyable people making vids in either the poker or crypto communities. Best of luck!

I don't know why people care if he's playing a lot or not, or why its big news when he says he isnt going to play much poker in the near future. He has been saying this for several months now.

Now it is interesting to me that he's trying to get away, play less poker while also putting up that billboard and wearing that shirt. I would've figured he would have some kind of video to go along with that.

The problem for Doug is that poker is a niche market, and Doug knows he will not get mainstream exposure or fame from it. And as he says, it is repetitive, facing the same decisions over and over again. So good luck to him seeking new challenges, rather than doing the same things over and over again. To stay at the top one has to work hard, and he is honest enough with himself to know he isn't inclined to made that hard work, so best to take a step back out of the game.

So he joins the likes of Fedor Holz, in retirement from poker.

Spoiler. He'll be back!

If his poker skills have diminished a bit, does it make the heads up match between him and that lemon guy more even? That would be a good watch

And I understand doug, you've never been great multi handed or 6 max which is what everyone plays now, and don't have the drive to learn and well, without learning poker becomes dull when you don't need the money.

I'm sure if Hu flourished, nbc Hu Championship was still on and pokergo streamed Hu cash we'd have doug still with us

The WSOP $10K Heads-up NLH Championship starts today. Doug is silly if he doesn't enter and give it a shot.
