Crap analysis that comes with a low level of confidence is better than mediocre analysis with a recommendation to take a strong position.

They are hilarious, even if you're not real deep into Cryto. Like his poker vids, good info as well. The clowns in the Crypto world are just such easy targets. Solid bum hunting, Dan Polk.

There is simply no framework for analysis. Fact.

Even in the equity markets with very good data and time proven framework for analysis. very few and I mean very analysts are right over any meaningful sample. most cant outperform un-managed index funds. Fact.

Bitcoin on CBOE provides some rudimentary data on market sentiment, but again forecasters of crypto prices are simply pulling stuff out of their arse. Fact.

Long-term, meaningful, and predictable value will be created by investing in companies that use the new blockchain technology (and future iterations) to solve business problems/create new services, not by speculating in the coin du jour. Opinion.
best post in the thread. i've been tapped to be the lead quant/PM for a new fund of cryptocurrencies and in conducting extensive research the above succinctly conveys the conclusions i've come to as well.

that said, there ARE a number of interesting and potentially valid ways to go about valuing cryptocurrencies both in published research and in the market if you know where to look.

but until the market gets more robust in a number of ways, it's still the wild west and you shouldn't invest money you're not 100% willing to lose. that said, building a 5-10k portfolio of 5-10 coins priced low with business-case justified uses for the blockchain that solve problems is a great way to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency revolution without an insane amount of risk and for a massive potential gain

I think it's incredibly boring too. I feel like the crypto scene appeals to one of my less favorite qualities of poker players (greed) and greatly lacks the strategic beauty that poker offers.

That said, I do understand the excitement (FREE MONEY FOR EVERYBODY!). And I think I'll still check out Doug's crypto vids from time to time since he's smart and charismatic and generally keeps me entertained.

That honestly was somewhat frustrating to hear that "Idiot News Man" talk about something he clearly knows nothing about even his basic math doesn't make sense, given the context in which he chose to word it, (Time 4 a drink) . . .

Thanks Doug . . .

Actually it's a sin to assume that the common people know what they are talking about. When you see "normal" people talk you should assume they are full of ****, their arguments are filled with errors and their vision doesn't extend to anything they can conceive. Anyone who takes what the bottom 90% says at face value is insane.

When I hear people at birthdays or family meetings talk I would have half of them taken into mental facilities. That's not even considering religious nutcases.

Just caught a bit of a Polk vid on twitter with 2 dudes claiming they travel around the world in "jets" (Polk made fun of this). Were those dudes calling out Polk? Sorry, not really into the whole crypto thing, but I found at least the portion of the video I saw interesting.

everyone one should probably have part of their portfolio in stocks or bonds
Doug, that's from your most recent video and crazy talk.

Are you saying that ones investment choices are Crypto and Stocks/Bonds and that one should "probably" not be 100% invested in Crypto.

Probably ?

The proper bankroll advice for crypto investment right now is the same for buying into a cash game. Don't bet money you can't afford to lose.

Actually, on that note, I think maybe Doug needs to think a bit more about how he's pitching things. From time to time, he throws in a generic disclaimer like "I'm not a financial advisor..." and that's fine, but then if he's saying stuff like people should invest in x, whether crypto or something else, then effectively he's giving investment advice.

Crypto is an unknown quantity really and it could fly to the moon again and again, or it could crash down spectacularly. It's okay to be enthusiastic about the potential there, but I think the vids could be a little more balanced in their view.

I thought this especially with the video about the CNBC clip.

No, crypto youtube idiots/shills need to be called out because not only is it highly entertaining, but it might actually save some poor sap from losing his ass.

Seconded. People lost millions in bitconnect. Crypto is highly unregulated and is basically the Wild West as far investing. No rules and whatever goes. Lots of idiots out there are just buying the "hot token" and are easy to scam. People need to be calling out scammers and disclosing their conflicts of interest regarding what they promote.

Doug might not be the most knowledgeable guy on the niche points of blockchain software, but he is honest, has integrity and is entertaining.
