I find it interesting he played a few WSOP events, just for the fans. It was going to be pretty unlikely he was actually going to be on the live stream, unless he final tabled the tag team/heads up event or made it on the featured table for the Main Event. The only way fans could really keep up with what he's doing, was through twitter and instagram.

If he was going to play a little, just for the fans, I would think a PNIA stream or PAD stream would make more sense, because his fans could actually watch him play. Plus it would allow him to play a cash game, which I know he enjoys more than playing tournaments. Obviously Doug can do whatever he wants, I just thought it was strange that he decided to play a couple events "just for the fans", when he could probably find other games that he would enjoy more and would be more entertaining for his fans.

Were there really people super disappointed he wasn’t going to play? Seems really odd

I’m guessing it was Doug throwing a fit on Twitter thing too.

Why does poker cause Doug anxiety? What doesn't he like about it? Why would someone who was so gifted at an activity just quit? I mean it's not like football where you're killing your body.

I can see him getting burned out and not wanting to play... but anxiety does seem like a strong word for somebody who won the $100K One Drop just 2 years ago.

No being allowed to make any mistake on record when the whole internet is ready to jump down your throat will make a person anxious.

RDP ran Doug out of poker.
He can probably still play online if he wants but sounds like he can't show his face at a casino anymore.

I agree, but if this is the reason it is a bit ironic.

Realize he spent years grinding micros
Then got on top for a year or two in HU
And then HU got all but crushed as a format

He's peaked, he's burned out, he he has nothing to aim for what he hasn't done already (he's never been near the top or talented for top ring games) ... It started when he moved onto being a youtuber years ago now just final dwindling down

Even binked MTT scores... And although gifted in other areas he doesn't have the same talent for longevity as other people in poker do.

He just stopped feeling the itch, it's not that complicated. And you are never going to play near your best if you force yourself to play when you don't want to.

Very much this in my humble opinion. Doug even said it himself in several of his past vids on his channel. Plus that he must be insane to not play a couple MTTs every now and then when he feels like it as live MTT fields are that bad.

After making millions and dedicating a decade of your life to poker you could easily lose your passion and just want to do something else. He cant play just cause everyone wants him to. Hope he keeps up the vids though.

Doug Polk lost the desire to play poker long, long ago. Before he started his training site he was on a long losing streak. He hasn't wanted to play poker since then. He can't hack it.

He was still considered a top HU NLHE player who was often holding HS tables even while launching Upswing. His NLHE graph never dropped from its peak (judging from HSDB).

Just blew some of his winnings (~700k) in PLO, since no one gave him action in Holdem

Doug has been posting the same "I'm not playing poker anymore, dunno what i'm doing with my future" bit once a month for like a year now.

I do think though he is actually one that will stay away for a bit unlike Fedor or Vanessa who "retire" then play a week later.

Also RDP is pretty funny

what he doesnt know how to tighten up his range vs 6max nits ? lol. im sure talents not the issue , he probably just burned himeself out ( just plain bored with it) also he seemed alittle butt hurt about pio and snowie when he said " he wasnt studying anymore and also he misses the days when you would battle and solve for ranges yourself" paraphrasing.

Maybe if Doug put on some appropriate clothes instead of wearing a tank top exposing his pale white flabby torso, he wouldn't have gotten RUN from poker.

It's self awareness...fat ugly people shouldn't wear tank tops under the illusion that your body is so HOT!

If you can't see the truth in the mirror, you can't see the truth on a poker table.

The fact that you are so fixated on the wardrobe choices of some dude who makes internet poker videos is more telling of you than it is of him.
