Handscraper.com third party tool that watched your tables and generated hand histories would be for sale within minutes.

OP, this is the worst post since Chainsaw posted about his idea going viral because it had 3 retweets.

Twitch is awesome for poker. Most of the successful streamers are just messing around and being entertaining, answering questions, promoting rakeback deals or deposit bonsues. The grinders playing 20 tables don't get a lot of viewers. Leatherass' stream is like watching paint dry.

I know myself that watching the guys on Twitch got me back into it and excited to play again for the first time since BF. I would imagine a lot of 21 year olds with Daddy's credit card would be compelled to deposit as well.

Just wait, it's only beginning. Someone bump this post in 3 years and we'll all have a laugh at Tim's shortsightedness.

I disagree with this logic. Poker will become more legit through guys like Jason and will generate hundreds of thousands of new players. Will it get harder to beat, sure. But that just means that poker is alive and evolving.

Every generation will see next generation to be stronger n better. So if you see your self n other regsget beaten by younger regs, that's just healthy you like it or not.

Think about that: Is poker more likely to die if there was one super player and the rest of the field where super bad players Or if there were many super good players and the minority were fish?

new players = good for poker.

money added to the poker economy = awesome.

i'm not comparing driving to poker but as young adults we have already seen-watched our parents drive for years, played racing games on P.C etc but until we get in the driving seat we really have no clue about Driving safely.
In my opinion if ya'all want better win rates & think you are good at poker then go for the banning of huds. But that ain't gonna happen.

tl,dr:

-OP thinks you can crush poker by watching, yet never having played a hand yourself
-OP equates online poker with all poker

Although some of the points made in the OP are very pertinent, Imo increasing the player pool can only be a good thing.

During the poker boom Eric Seidel had a huge problem with players seeing the pro's hole cards, giving the average Joe an edge but there always has to be give and take in poker, which is after all a zero sum game. The game needs to be sold and advertised to flourish.

What was true back in the early 2000's is true now. People will use this new information in their own way. Poker is a game of personality. More players equals more people who have no tilt control, the gambling gene or are just applying the information they have seen on twitch in the wrong way.

If it's a choice between the player pool shrinking or the twitch alternative, advertising the game, the latter is the best way forward until something better comes along.

Posts like these will hurt online poker than Twitch ever could. You know how off-putting these damn threads are to new players? The people that make these threads are usually the lazys that don't want to put the time in to get any better. If you thought the pre-black friday poker economy was realistic and sustainable, then you're ******ed. Not everyone plays poker with the sole intention of making a quick buck. Some of us actually enjoy just playing and studying the game.

Anything that brings in more eyes on poker and brings in new money deposits is a good thing.

The only real downside is that players will be tougher to beat and Pokerstars will dominate the market because i have rarely seen anybody stream from any other site unless your from the US.

oh noes guys, there are way too many young guns thinking about getting into poker!! wtf we gonna do??

the players need to know this is problem. I know a place where Intelligent Minds come to gather, where REAL CHANGE can happen.

There is a forum on a site involving many poker players called NEWS VIEWS GOSSIP. I will post this information on this site and sow the seeds of change... Once done, the rest is in the hands of the viewers...

So 90% of your poker friends aren't able to beat poker anymore?

Have you ever thought about other Regs moving on because making 100k/year actually isn't much? I mean it's fine when you are young, but once you reach a certain age knowing that you can't play poker forever 100k is literally nothing. The opportunitycosts for a smart person are just insane longterm.

You make some good points. I think the point about teaching gamers how to poker could be a double edged sword is a good one. Its one that I hadn't really heard voiced and I've heard a few people speak out against twitch with numerous issues.

That said, I don't think twitch is as bas for the games as you think. It would basically be impossible to make the situation worse, and there is potential to reach a new market right before regulation. Its a hail marry but poker needs a hail marry.

Pretty easy to say when you're one of the top players in the world and make millions from the game. Not all of us are going to have an edge against 99.9% of players.

It's ridiculous what goes on even at micros nowadays. Join 5-50NL ZOOM and just look at what's happening. Fish not playing as often and not even stacking off super light when they do. Regs 3-bet bluffing everywhere. People 4bet bluffing with polarized ranges. All sorts of **** that was unthinkable a few years ago. Sure, the games are still easy to beat because most regs are bad, apply concepts incorrectly, tilt, etc. but I hate to think what's going to happen over time. Nowadays your average Joe that devotes a lot of time to the game struggles to even beat SSNL. It's resulted in everyone seat scripting and bum hunting since hardly anyone can beat the rake.

I hate to imagine what happens 2-3 years from now. Is 10NL going to be full of regs who have good mindset, know GTO ranges and have balanced frequencies postflop? Seriously, I can understand why fish are just quitting now. Must be fun to deposit on Pokerstars, sit at a low limit game, and instantly be bumhunted by 5 regulars at the table + 12 more on a waitlist while constantly being isoed, 3-bet, and crushed for around 40bb/100 by regs while also paying 10+bb/100 in rake.

Very few of the popular streamers play cash at all. Jcarver is the only one I can think of who even tables at cash/zoom. I'd imagine the majority of these twitch viewers will be drawn to the MTTs/Spins where the variance is much higher and everybody has a chance to bink one every now and then.

I think people underestimate the power of tilt and lack of BRM; only a select few can truly handle severe variance and stay on their A game and stay appropriately rolled for their stakes.

Twitch poker will no doubt educate more players about the game but the value of having an influx of new players with a false sense of poker confidence is what drove the original boom. Thousands of players latched on to the skill aspect of the game and thought they had an edge while easily being able to blame their losses on bad luck. This lead to a huge number of people punting off buyins everyday and taking their shot...this will happen again with the new players coming from twitch, educated or not.

Long term, yes poker will continue to get tougher regardless but I feel Twitch will be a decent shot in the arm for the lifeblood of poker with new players, many of which are of the young eager gamer demographic with something to prove. This can only mean more money in the prizepools and on the cash tables, which any true poker player should appreciate.
