It appears that everybodies favourite "retired" high stakes poker player is being accused of "viewbotting" on twitch.

Where there's a will there's a bot.

/Was any of it ever real?

It is the same as the way people can pay to gain fake followers on twitter or facebook. There are services that that will boost your viewers on twitch by having fake bot accounts to watch your stream and the bots can even "chat".

http://www.twitch-viewerbot.com

This has been a known issue for some time... there are bots to gain views, gain followers, etc. These bots are used to game the system, and increase exposure to put yourself at the top of the Twitch list. I cannot confirm because I haven't read the Twitch T&C, but it appears that using a bot to add fake viewers can get your account shut down.

A quote from twitch-viewerbot.com home page/FAQ:

Quote:
Some Twitch Viewer bots, ignore the fact that suspicious channels get banned. What good is a viewer bot if all it does is get you banned? We have not neglected that fact and put a lot of focus on making the bot secure for our users. Our Twitch viewer bot automatiically sets all parameters so that your account does not get flagged by Twitch. Also, each and every single one of our IP addresses is a secure private proxy
and here is their justification on why they think breaking the rules by using a bot to increase viewers is acceptable: http://www.twitch-viewerbot.com/botting

I'm a firm believer in following T&C... if the T&C allows this, then not much can be done about it - but the probability is very high that Twitch does not allow view botting in any shape or form which would make using this app a violation of the terms.

view botting seems like a legitimate way to garner attention to a burgeoning channel. if the product sucks people wont stay anyways. good for him for giving it a go.

people are who into the CS twitch community have known about this for months. Stickyrice could simply never achieve a high level of viewership organically as he is an unlikable dumb ass. On a side not his gameplay is decent but nothing special.

This is indeed a sad day for NVG and the whole 2+2 community. Never before has the poker world been so shocked to learn about a beloved member, that cheated.

I don't want to know what a stickyrice or a viewbot is, because right now i'm too angry to write so i just quote the great reddit poster Yreisolgakig: "Normally I think posts like these are jokes (they never have any evidence to back then up) but damn, those are some damning graphs."

My favorite fail in this area was some random dork who bought pre-video ads on YouTube itself to promote his channel. Of course he was awful. If you gotta pay for it... (Edit: It looks like this sort of thing might be pretty common, actually. I guess they rarely pop up in my feed for whatever reason. Also LOL at me for not blocking ads, but I don't mind them in general.)

And let's not forget our own SeriouslySrius (or however you spell it) who had like 1M+ views on one of his videos before he even posted about it here. He got called out on that one.
