An episode with "funny" questions. I don't believe it makes sense to ask people to guess a number and then reveal the correct one without further explanation.

1. The three hand problem
You pick a hand with better than 33% equity and the best hand won't be 66% against two other random hands on average, so it is somewhere inbetween. I am sure Grizzle knew this also and that he meant the edge over the initial 33%. So "correctly" formulated, his answer would have been 58%.

2. The buy-in amount
The answer to this and similar problems depends on the utility of money. In the end, you won't risk your life to play in this tournament even if the EV was unlimited, so the answer can never be "I play for everything". You shouldn't do that even if they play the national anthem and give you a medal for participating.

Here is a nice example for the combination of +EV and variance:

One final observation: Even if Grizzle was completely off on almost anything, it doesn't mean that he cannot be good at something. He was certainly good enough to make a living from Poker for quite a while.

RE Sunday Tournament:

Specifically, you have AK against tens, jacks or queens-18 combinations.

How (in your head) are you able to determine that you will win eight and lose ten of those eighteen combinations?

You know for a fact that two overcards are 45% against a pair.

18 x 0.5 = 9
9 - 10% = 8.1

I wonder why it always happens on the toilet that one comes up with brilliant ideas. Anyways, here it is: If his opponents in these tournaments don't bluff often enough and call too much, then David's style of playing fit-or-fold on the flop and folding to any sort of aggression on further streets is actually correct.

Re March 4th Wednesday Tournament Last Hand

It's almost (95%) inconceivable to me that one of those other two players didn't have an ace.

If I only had $2000, yes I'd call. But with 10K, I'm outta there.

That last episode from the 25th of April wasn't a losing session.

I'd say it's a strong case for "si tacuisses philosophus mansisses".

It's probably best for him to terminate this project, than to prove to the viewers that his tournament-concept is obviously flawed. I mean if someone plays tournaments consistently(!) on a below average stacksize, even the biggest n00b will notice that something is wrong. Yes, variance is a bitch, but this is simply a regular theme for the entire stream.

Let's not forget that he isn't doing well in those cashgames either, despite being arguably the best player at the table, at least in his own perception. Maybe fit-or-fold isn't the way to beat these games after all.

Obviously he did and he did it without telling anyone about it or saying goodbye. I guess it was -EV for him to waste any more time on this project. DUCY?

Contrary to most of what Shandrax says in this thread, David wasn't trying to demonstrate he can grind out $27 tourneys profitably (he regularly made -EV decisions to benefit the stream and said so), it was always about using the poker as a means to stimulate strategy/theory discussion. If he has indeed quit streaming, it's probably because now he has seen that the typical Twitch viewer has roughly the intelligence of a goldfish, and the discussions are not going to be all that fruitful.

As stated earlier, David was in the process of moving to Vegas and also had a problem with the streaming software which I fixed yesterday. His steaming schedule during the WSOP will be spotty depending upon the juiciness of the live games at the Bellagio. Decent chance he will be up on Wednesday.

Thank you. I thought I was going to have to enter detox for my withdrawal symptoms.

[Side note] I have been watching his streams via the tape delay, because I can't participate live at the times he is streaming.

Obviously, if I could participate live the conversations would be much more stimulating.

I think I am fully aware of his intentions, but he cannot claim to make good decisions (in theory) and keep losing on a regular basis. Variance is a bitch, but the sample-size became rather large.

Not only did we see that he was playing a losing strategy, we also knew it in the back of our minds: Playing weak-tight doesn't win! This style may have won money in 1977 against some drunk casino guests who barely knew the rules, but it doesn't win in 2015 against online-pros.
