Feel like it's more fitting to have a Firebat-Batstone-esque format of banning stuff from standard instead. I'd play but there are still key cards from Wild that I don't own but would not bother investing in solely for this.

Batstone was an 8 man tournament were there was a public poll and the top 5 cards in votes got banned

On top of this each player in the tournament was allowed to make a ban as well.

Yep this. Public poll by fans on Twitter ended up banning Yogg, Tuskarr, FWA, Barnes and CoTW. Then each player got to pick a card to ban as well.

Problem is is that it doesn't really make sense for a tournament of >8 people to each pick a card to ban

Maybe we could do a public poll and ban the top 10 cards or something idk

As a participant I want to formally make "implosion" my vote for banning. I'm probably below the skill curve for this tourney, but I still want to see shaman/lock curve decks fail.
