Blizzard announced a new game mode called Heroic Brawl.

http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/...awl-10-17-2016

Seems like a combination of Arena, Constructed, and the long-wanted Tournament Mode:

Quote:
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.

Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!

For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?

Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold.
Minimum prize is 1 pack.

Also, looks like this won't be a permanent thing, just replace the Tavern Brawl for a "week" at a time.

hopefully this is a test in order to make it or something similar permanent

Very few people are going to play it. Most people are not going to drop $10 and go like 1-3 in 30 minutes an feel like they got much for their money.

It's an interesting idea, but seems like the type of thing that should run in parallel to the regular brawl, not replace it for that week.

even if "most" people don't play it that doesn't mean "very few" will

obviously people are going to complain about something because what else is there to do on the internet, but a mode like this is long overdue. And as I said hopefully this is a test run to make something permanent.

the rewards up top are insane. 50 packs and 6K dust plus 1000 gold back!

Apparently the rewards will be very top heavy so I'll almost certainly pass on this, cool idea though.

So pretty much who can get 12 wins with Shaman

Well I'm assuming like Tavern Brawl there will be some sort of rules curveball which will factor into your deck building. They'll have to make the rules twists much more balanced and thought out in these brawls though, since there are stakes.

The meta is in a very bad spot for this Brawl.

Super top heavy rewards and the best you can realistically hope for if you're a top top level player is 55% winrate in Shaman mirrors.

Even for the very best the 12 win % will be something ridiculously low.

Wow the difference between 11 and 12 wins:

34 packs, 1 golden legendary, 620 dust, and 620 gold. That's some pressure when you're 11-2!

Break-even point is about 5 wins:

0 - 1 pack (100g) - 0% (win pct)
1 - 2 packs (200g) - 25%
2 - 3 packs (300g) - 40%
3 - 4 packs+~120g+~120dust (~640g) - 50%
4 - 5 packs+~190g+~190dust (~880g) - ~57,1%
5 - 6 packs+~220g+~220dust (~1040g) - 62,5% <-- you need to reach this point to break even.
6 - 7 packs+~250g+~250dust (~1200g) - ~66,6%
7 - 8 packs+~280g+~280dust (~1360g) - 70%
8 - 9 packs+~310g+~310dust (~1520g) - ~72,7%
9 - 16 packs+~400g+~400dust (~2400g) - 75%
10 - 16 packs+~400g+~400dust+1 golden legendary (~4000g) - ~76,9%
11 - 16 packs+~480g+~480dust+2 golden legendaries (~5760g) - ~78,6%
12 - 50 packs+~1100g+~1100dust+3 golden legendaries (~12000g) - ~85,7%+

I don't think this is true. If it's all shamans then someone will queue freeze mage and start winning so someone will switch to warrior so there will be hunters etc etc.

with super top heavy rewards the incentive is to polarize your deck and either hard counters most matchups or completely flame out since theres no meaningful bump at the lower win counts

lol at all the bustos on reddit complaining about this, the only point I think they have is that this probably shouldn't take the place of the regular brawl

It's a valid complaint, because the time they could have spent developing something people would actually play was devoted to this instead

Anyone with the potential to go 12 wins does not ever need to play this mode because they have enough of their collection anyway

This mode is just spew for anybody who isn't an elite player with a complete card collection. I'm sure a few randos will try it out and get crushed.

It will be fun to watch streamers play it and it sounds like that's kinda the point of it.

Having legit competitive stuff in HS is a good thing overall.

The first day will prob be the softest and I'm going to play it a couple times then but yeah, it will probably get a lot more difficult after that.

one interesting thing is that this is finally a mode where its better to maximize win % instead of ladder where youd rather go 6-2 than 3-0 over a time period. could impact the meta in a situation where there is more than one tier 1 deck

reddit salt is always the perfect seasoning

replace one stupid tavern brawl for a week (which I dont even play anyway because they are boring imo) and the sky is falling. 1000 gold is an OUTRAGEOUS sum

I quickly Monte-Carlo'd that thing, assuming a 50% win rate and that 1 pack=100 gold=100 dust=1/16 golden legendary. If I did it correctly, the reward ev seems to be about 710 gold. So it's negative ev if you pay 1000 gold.

It seems to be break even if your win rate is >55%. And you will be playing against a selective player pool. Probably not worth it for scrubs like me.

Even with ~11k gold I doubt I will do this.
