First arena is free.

You build your deck from random cards to play in the arena, you collection is meaningless so you don't need to buy anything beforehand. It's vaguely similar to a draft, except instead of boosters with other players you choose from 3 hero types and then one each from 30 sets of 3 random cards.

uh yeah brainfart i forgot arena was random.

Guess I had to get lucky and not get absolute trash in my first run and buy a deck with it lol. Oh wells, theres always next week.

I'm watching Trump now and he's currently 7-1 with what looked to be a fairly average deck when he was building it. The average level of play is so bad that as long as you don't completely punt the deck building or get super unlucky in games I can't imagine a good Magic player winning fewer than 4 or 5 games very often.

gotta pay 2 bucks to enter it, and my account is one of the bugged ones with the shop.

One thing that I've realized about Blizzard's games is that they are very good at monopolizing your time. WoW, Diablo, and now Hearthstone, to actually do well, to progress, etc. you have to put in a lot of play time for a small step.

Hearthstone, 3 days-ish, for 150g doesn't seem too terrible doing dailies. In WoW, though, to get some gear you had to do the dungeon finder and wait 3 weeks just for 1 piece of gear, along with the amount and distance of walking/traveling you had to do to get anywhere.

And Diablo...well, it's debatable because some people play it nonstop, but casually playing wasn't a very thrilling experience.

Anyway, I'll be out for the next 2 weeks so I hope I get lucky in that time and get a beta key so when I come back I can jump in and play.

this time the frostwolf guy is 4/4, +1/1 per minion, then give him +3 attack, and then double his attack .

Woohoo got an invite today. Haven't played a TCG since Yugioh. Installing right now...

Very enjoyable once you play your first real life opponent. I'm using the Frostwolf guy too. Summon a bunch of trash units that summons other trash units to boost attack power.

Frost Nova seems pretty OP. Freeze all enemy units for only 2 mana.

meh, freeze only lasts one turn. I dont think its good to have in your deck, might as well get the 3 or 4 mana AOEs that do dmg.

frostwolf is good with shaman+paladin I think, because their hero powers summon a minion that gives him the buff. He's kinda meh with the others.

I ran into a real player and got destroyed. Frostwolf didn't work too well with the mage I'm using. Now I jacked his build which is largely all spell cards and units that boost the spell attack. Seems pretty strong so far.

Been playing for 5 hours now and I'm probably going to play another 5 hours.

ps: 6-3 in last arena, meh. Got bull****ted hard by a mage and lost one cause i got overconfident. my hutner deck was amazingly good with 4 buzzards and 3 hyenas. Couldve definitely gotten 8 or 9 wins.
