Is saurolisk the problem with hooktusk? What about hero powering into tokens too much? That seems worse?

Hooktusk has a 3.48 average placement atm, millhouse peaked at 3.8. Honestly think anyone playing a decent level 1 strat with it should have an av placement in the 2.somethings. Seems really hard to come worse than third with it and you can pretty easily transition into a couple of poisons a couple of big boys and lots of divine shield triggers which will win a lot of late games.

Imo it would still be op without the level 1 strat though. It has a 0.5 better placement than rafaam which is an absolutely huge gap. Just make it give you a wisp or something if you try and hp a 1 drop and it would be fine.

Hooktusk now ahead of rafaam by the same amount as rafaam is ahead of Alex lol.

And hooktusk is easier to misplay than millhouse was pre nerf.

I’m a 9k player just to preface this statement. I think Reno is on the high end of tier 2 if not a tier 1 hero. He’s just terribly misplayed and using his power early game even on a rat pack can often carry

Hooktusk is powerful though at the same time I find her overwhelming with all the decisions you have to make. I've gotten her 3 times so far and pretty sure I way underperformed each time.

Just got crushed by a pirate lineup that included some big stat boys and some that get buffed in-combat. It appears there's some crazy good pirate minions at the later tiers though I haven't really taken the time to study them yet.

Finally made it happen with Hooktusk. Started with a couple of beefy lizards that got me through the early game. Then transitioned to a divine shield build and got the 1st. The discoveries helped me find all the pieces and ended up with gold bronze warden, gold deflecto and gold egg with some bolvars and enforcers, and the lizard goldened as well. I'm feeling the Hooktusk power! And exhausted as well...

What's the best hero you pick it over? I like reno but I have him low tier 3. Not having a hp that can carry you through the early game is just so punishing and if you use it on a rat or a spawn to stabilise you throw away your late game advantage. I can see it being a lot better with macaw in the game though.

Finally hit 9k myself today after going from 8.9 down to 7.x twice. Climbed 1k in two days on my phone. I'd like to say it's cos I have a better handle on the new meta than the pool but I'm probably just running hot. Think eudora is my new favourite hero to play.

Welcome to the dark side. Usually if you find a lizard early you want to stay on 1 until you have like 2 golden lizards and a golden wrath weaver and keep them in till at least the very late game.

I'm not entirely sure how to answer. i would flip a coin if offered him vs say curator. so somewhere in that range. curator is a lot worse now though since power leveling doesnt feel as rewarding as it used to with kaelthas being the exception

Curator has kinda gone the way of nefarian in that it seemed super strong in earlier metas but is now like low tier 3. I will concede that if you manage to trick Bob into letting you hero power multiple times like this guy then he's pretty good . (the minion I managed to kill was a golden Eliza)

Balance patch coming

Highlights: no direct nerf to Hooktusk but lizard is getting nerfed. Also the parrot. Some buffs to a few heroes like Maiev and Reno.

In constructed, the Demon Hunter slice card getting nerfed.

It’s kind of not really a nerf to that card, it’s still very good. It’s a nerf to altruis and the turn 3 satyr + slice combo. I’m glad those combos are nerfed, the satyr play just auto loses games if you dont have a perfect answer.

hopefully the changes will breath some life into mechs and demons, but I doubt it. Just had two games where I thought I pretty much highrolled going mechs and demons and it was enough to get top 4 but damn it's just hopeless going against other tribes in the late game.

In other words 2 damage to all enemies, 2 cards, ~3-5 damage to an enemy, a secret, 1 enemy frozen, and a 7/7 body for {7}, and sometimes extra minions from Power of Creation or Deep Freeze (and rarely Apexis Blast). That's pretty dang strong. The problem again is what phases of the game is the card useful? Early game it's a vanilla {2} 3/2 with +1 spell damage which is only mediocre. In fatigue it's only value if you can hit power of creation/deep freeze/apexis (13.40% for each). Then there's times you save it for something and it misses whatever you're looking for (though not having negative side effects like box is a MASSIVE difference - if you don't hit your Good+ aoe spells, you probably hit 2-3 secrets, and drew 2-3 cards). By far this card's biggest problem will be the amount of aggro this meta is looking to have.

Evocation: 5/5 There's no reason not to run this in every mage deck. Look at my possible spells link for possible mage spells this can draw and think what drawing a hand full of them would look like - if you have less than 5 cards in your hand there's almost no way you don't find a card you'll want to play from Evocation which again only costs {1}. Even if you don't find exactly what you want (a board clear for example) you'll find a psuedo in either something like a freeze, a secret, Power of Creation etc.

Apexis Smuggler: 1.5/5 I'm trying really hard to think about how you can fit this in a deck. Ancient Mysteries making a spell cost 0 then delaying until you draw this and all of that lets you... discover a spell? Discover a spell is decently strong, we've seen it a lot on Kalecgos and a lot of the bad troll mage spells are rotating out. Just no.

Apexis Blast: 1.5/5 First of two in a row 'no minion' deck-archetypes cards introduced. This is Fireball for {5} for 1 less damage, that can summon a random 5. If Albatross weren't a thing i'd rate this 3.5 - a random {5} is worth about a {3.5} considering you don't get the battlecry, and a 5 damage targeted spell is worth around {3}, but when you consider how harshly albatross hurts this card and deck archetype, i fear for the viability of this deck.

Font of Power: 2/5 Mage minions are decently useful, the problem is the same as Apexis Blast - as soon as there's an albatross you have to draw both copies of the bird in your deck to get the no-minion effect. Another problem is there's a few duds - Malygos and Dragoncaster are duds unless you get another dragon, Ethereal Arcanist/Kirin Tor Mage/Apexis Smuggler secrets, Mana giant spells that didn't start in your deck, and Animated Avalanche another elemental. If you're doing no minion decks you have to play 2 copies of this, but again im just worried about how competitively viable these decks will be in 2 months.

Imprisoned Observer: 4/5 This would be even higher if it didn't look weak to Demon Hunter decks im predicting will be played. {3} 4/5 body crushes the vanilla test. 2 to all enemy minions will be holding the enemy hostage - they know they have to play minions that will eat the 2 damage or rush you down before it awakens. Great card if again demon hunter weren't a thing, but with it being a thing this card may be slightly too weak to be in every mage deck.

Deep Freeze: 4.5/5 Astromancer and Puzzle Box, welcome to one of your new highrolls. I think this makes it into every mage deck, especially with the prevalence of weapon classes (namely Dragon Hunter and Demon Hunter). This stops their weapon shenanigans that turn, and will continue to unless they can deal with 12! health worth of water elementals. Or you target something like an alexstrasza and stall for a better board clear. I think all mage decks run at least 1 copy of this.

Incanter's Flow: 4/5 Great anti-aggro card, and can be played in most normal decks too i think. Though useless drawn late game, consider the possibilities this card has with Kael, or Archmage. If kael is to work in mage, and i think there's a real chance it does - this card will be why.

Starscryer: 4/5 Loot Hoarder was played in mage until recently, and this has +1 attack. The deathrattle says SPELLS ONLY which can be tutored. I don't think people see the true potential in this card - one of secret mage's biggest problems was not drawing secrets, and this solves that problem if your only spells are secrets/Ancient Mysteries. Even if not playing secret mage, this card can arguably be played.

Netherwind Portal: 2.5/5 Not much to say here, if secret mage is a thing then this is a thing, as they generally play tempo
3 month update!

Looks like i was generally very close. Biggest misses were Evocation, Incanter's Flow, and Starscryer. Evocation still feels really strong, just a little too weak with all the mages playing control limiting the number of cards it generates. Starscryer also feels like it's ok, just not amazing, and the tutor aspect of the card has at least not found a real use yet. Same with Incanter's Flow - it's always played in spell mage but hasn't really found a use outside of it yet.

Think I was one of the very few who saw Imprisoned Observer as a very strong card.

Rest of cards generally within 1 point of where I predicted, overall think it was pretty close

I still play only constructed. I barely hit diamond 2 this month, no deck is really clicking with me. The only time i start to climb is when i play tempo dh. There’s really no reason to play any other deck.

This meta is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. All the decks do extremely broken **** by like turn 6 or 7 and if you have the answer, ok, if you don’t its auto loss. Control mirrors have absolutely no depth or strategy like they used to.

Still having a fair amount of success with galakrond warlock. I think it’s a sleeper deck, or i’m just really good at it or something. I feel most matchups are pretty easy.

Oh yea and the twin slice “nerf” was actually a huge buff. It gave DH more reach - now for 4 mana they can get 8 damage in a turn. For 6 mana they can do 14 with metamorphosis. It’s absurd. If you combo that with altruis, which really isnt that hard, it’s not crazy to get absurd damage combos in the late game. All you gotta do is take someone down to 20ish health and you win unless they heal a lot.

Vulpera scoundrel or whatever that discover a spell card turns up metamorphosis like at least 60% of the time it seems like. So you get even more reach. Just a disgustingly powerful deck.

Similar story here. I was up to 5.7k and then pirates came out and have dropped below 5k. Probably because I'm stubbornly trying to still do divine shield builds without Mackerel or trying to highroll murlocs. Also haven't quite figured out how to do a pirate build properly.

As far as constructed goes, my rank is well below where I finished last month so I guess I haven't been playing that much. I did recently get lucky with a couple of pack openings, got a Zephrys and a Maiev, so I'm working on making a kick-ass Highlander Hunter and probably will be playing more constructed next month.

I'm really an arena player waiting for news on when the longest arena rotation ever will end, but I've been enjoying constructed fine. I spent a fortune in dust on Highlander Mage, which is what I mostly climbed with this month. Also played a fair amount of Big Druid and Tempo Priest. Big Druid, in particular, seems quite strong for a deck nobody's playing.

I'm never upset to queue into a demon hunter as rogue. Warrior is way more annoying and mage/druid matchups are bad.

the highlander alexstraza is way more unfair than anything demon hunter does
