Having a hero power that costs 1 mana compared to 2 for every other hero seems ridiculously strong on the surface. And yeah the cards look to be kind of crazy too.

I have faith though (maybe because I'm newer, ha) that Blizzard is closely monitoring it and will come out with some quick nerfs as needed.

The 7 mana boulderfist ogre that casts 2 arcade missiles each turn is broken. The 5 mana 10/6 that does TEN damage after 2 turns is broken. The card that draws 3 cards for negative 4 mana is broken. The 1 mana ping is strong in constructed and it has to be totally broken in arena. I saw on twitch someone was playing an OTK demon hunter deck. I thought they were trying to get rid of those combo decks.

I wonder if I should just concede a ton of games to ruin my MMR. The mage reno deck they give you is weak and gets farmed by anyone using cards from the new set, regardless of the class. I'll probably be done with constructed for a while. I hope arena is still fun.

Priestess of Fury is going to be good even at 8 mana. 9 mana might be too much, but probably "fair".

the 8 mana mage spell that freezes an enemy and summons two water elementals really wrecks demon hunter it seems. Or at least it did the combo deck i was running.

DH is running a combo of Kael'Thas plus Twin Slice and Inner Demon.

With all their combo pieces, they can get +20 attack for 7 mana, with 3 mana left over to do stuff like silence.

With Warglaives they can get through pretty much anything.

this is ladder right now

DH is running at 70+ WR on HS Replay (I'm at 70% from D5 to D2). Deck is completely ridiculous it's not fun to play these mirrors at all.

And Dormant is a stupid idea. Bliz say they don't want combo decks because you cant interact with them then come up with a whole class of cards that cant be interacted with.

And for the last two years they were trying to have a more minion centric approach to the game. Less direct damage spells and big weapon damage, definitely no charge minions, they didnt want combo decks to be a thing.

They give demon hunter all of this and more. I am guessing their worst fear was that DH would not be played and a deck like dragon hunter would still run amuck on release, so they just overcompensated the crap out of it.

I’m not even sure how you fix it without changing about 10-15 cards and even then I’m not sure it would solve the problem

DH has the highest WR in Wild with one set vs 18

It reminds me of the Kobolds and Catacombs set for Warlock. Almost every single card they got in that set was very good to great.

This Demon Hunter set feels like they got the K&C Warlock treatment plus Gul'dan all at once.

Did they even test this??? The games in arena vs DH just feel like a solo adventure on super mythic mode

Content shouldn't come out this broken. It's a joke. I was super hyped to play the new expansion but now I have almost no interest in playing constructed anymore until it's fixed. It's day 2 of the expansion. Blizzard needs to sort their **** out.

I just want to play interesting thought provoking matchups. The mirror isnt interesting and comes down to who draws their powerful cards on curve.

The most interesting deck is the combo version but the mirror is cancer.

I wonder if they essentially released the DH in a beta state. I was watching a behind the scenes video where they went over the development process of the DH class and it seemed like they were struggling with figuring out the hero power and only chose this one at the last minute and the cards went through a ton of iterations.

Maybe that's normal or maybe they went with a "ship it now and fix it later" mentality which is standard for most software releases these days. Hypothetically, let's say they couldn't figure out how to balance the class at all. The devs go to management and say: We can ship it broken, or not ship it at all. Obviously the choice would be to ship it broken.

Man...so disappointed. I was super hyped for the rotation/new expansion and this is easily the least fun I've ever had....and it's only been a day. Brutal

Seems to me square one is you just can’t/shouldnt have a 1 mana hero power when the entire literal game and development the last what, 7 years has been designed around 2 mana hero powers. You cant just upend that. The hero power alone is stupid powerful and I dont know the fix. 2 mana, 2 attack? Still kinda busted.

I never bought into the stupid theorycrafting reasons why they could “never” add a 10th class to the game, there were a lot that I cant remember now but maybe some are on display now.

this is back to back expansions now that there has been something completely broken at launch - it took all of like 3 hours for people to figure out that DH was broken

this is nothing new though, team 5 is terrible at their jobs and have been for years

The dormant thing bugs me the most though, especially the demon hunter minion - if you think about it for a second, you realize that there should be no stat bonus at all for dormant minions. What dormant minions allow you to do is bank mana, which is a desirable thing in of itself. The 5 mana you spend on the antaen isn't wasted, you just get it in 2 turns, allowing you to set up big swings, which is what the last meta was all about. Minions like antaen are great because the way you bank your mana (a huge minion and 10 damage to all enemies) is ALWAYS good and an effect that helps you win board. Minions like the druid dormant, however, are situationally good at best. Maybe you don't get the card you want to be reduced in hand, or you can't manipulate your hand to get the reduction you want.

Blizz overstatting them with the logic of "but they do nothing the turn you play them" is typical for them, but nonetheless terrible. Honestly, I think you can make a better argument that the minions should be understatted rather than overstatted.

Yea, agree they should be understatted.

Team 5 fundamentally does not understand their own game. I applied for an open junior position on their game design team a while back and got auto rejected. Idk what their criteria is for even getting a phone call, but I was seriously a perfect candidate. Just couldnt squeak through their resume/cover letter parser (plus I hear you usually need a referral).

But it’s been known a long time they dont understand their own game and why they sometimes bring in actual pros to advise. I dont know if/when they stopped doing that but we are clearly in a beta at the moment.

their top former pro on the design team is known for playing literally only aggro decks lol (Chakki), doesn't shock me at all this happened

I can guarantee exactly what they're doing, because they do the same in Overwatch - always release new content in an overpowered state.

I'm not sure how many of you play another Blizzard game Overwatch but this has been their MO - you release a new hero and make them completely overpowered (Brigette all the way to Sigma) to generate hype and get people playing the new hero, then balance it out at a later point. And this makes sense to a degree because it makes new players want to try out the new content, which is much better than the alternative of creating a new class/hero who is underpowered that no one ever plays.
