I've been playing since release and never spent any money on the game. Somehow I just preordered the next expansion. I think it's because I'm feeling limited in the decks I can play because they require more dust than before, and because I dont mind giving money to Blizzard for all the time I spent on that game.

Emeriss is terrible because it's a bigger Don Han'Cho (Dragon Han'Cho?) and it's a 10 mana card that does nothing on the turn it's played.

imo the most interesting cards revealed so far are the even/odd ones. I want to play odd priest for the big healz.

Murloc pally was my go to this month to climb. Every time I queued cubelock or priest or anything else really I just got whammo'd.

In an episode of value town I was listening to during a 6 hour drive the other day, I forget which ep specifically, they mentioned in a recent brode interview that he said they print bad cards on purpose.

my question is - why? is that really necessary for the game? I know you need some crappy bodies to fill some mana slots so "generate an x cost minion" doesnt become busted, but why make crappy unplayable cards on purpose?

It's impossible for a design perspective to make every card good or playable and gaara/chanmanV said it would make the game too expensive if every card was great, but i really disagree with making flat out crap just for the sake of filler.

Cubelock has to be the strongest deck ever.

The plays that it can make are just insane relative to the mana cost. The discounts it gets on Voidlords make it miserable to play against. Having to work through 4+ Voidlords is frustrating in a vacuum, the fact that the Warlock likely never paid 9 mana for one of them is just insult to injury. Doomguards are another issue. They cost 5 mana, and aren't OP for a 5 mana card because you have to discard 2 cards out of your hand. That balances the OP stats and charge. But Cubelocks play them for 0, which is even better than playing them for 5. And on top of playing them for 0 instead of 5, they don't suffer the drawback. And on top of that, they get to play 4 or maybe 6 of these OP minions without the drawback.

What I want from Blizzard is something that balances, or punishes, Cubelock playstyle.

You have an OP 5 mana card that you play for 0 - what's the response/punishment for that?

For example, are they going to give Priests something that reliably puts Lyra straight on to the battlefield on turn 5 regardless of where he is in your deck? Can Priests have a 6 mana play that thins their deck, puts a high value minion in to play, and maybe heals for 8?

there have been magic articles about this concept, and i agree with you, its ****** design

and yet they adhere to it, so shrug

I feel like they've gotten better about this, looking at WOTOG & TGT, there were 4 or 5 minions per set that were just vanilla, or maybe had taunt. Everyone knew that these minions were going to see 0 play from day 1. This is awful, total pack filler.

But looking at the last 3 xpacs, almost every neutral minion has some kind of text. And the ones that don't are usually 0 or 1 mana (dire mole, penguin).

They've gotten better about not printing stuff like worgen greaser, which is just a complete waste of space.

One of the reasons cubelock is so great is because shaman is in the dumpster. Shaman has a lot of tools that deal with warlock's nonsense - devolve, hex, earth shock. If there were more shamans, warlock would have some worse matchups and suffer for it.

Then again, warlock is a huge reason why shaman is in the dumpster, defile OP.

and yet magic is still going after 25 years while pokemon and yugioh which just raised the level of OP each set have dwindled out

trying to design every card for competitive constructed play would make for an unsuccessful game. hearthstone is also unique in all the mechanics that generate random minions or cards that aren't in your deck and the range of available cards has to balance that

if the complaint is that there are commons that don't really do much, meh. it matters for arena and who really cares if the other option is just releasing a set with fewer cards. if the complaint is about splashy cards that are bad like astral communion/majordomo then there are a ton of people who like playing those cards. some players will actually have fun with that hunter legendary!

This new set kinda has a TGT vibe to it - feel like they’re overpricing the echo and rush cards, much like the inspire ones.

The issue is the randomness of the cards. For some reason the designers love that aspect of the game and thus have to create minions and spells that are trash to randomly cast, discover, etc. I personally don’t love the randomness but I understand it’s part of the game.
