What is so funny / stupid about it?

I personally quit a few weeks ago. I've been playing since the end of the beta. Even when I wasn't enjoying the meta I'd still log in and clear my daily quests but I just discovered over the past few months that felt like a complete chore and I wasn't enjoying the game at all.

HS for me has just sort of run its course. It is what it is. That's how most games work. Playing any game for a few years is really good in the grand scheme of things and HS was my introduction to the whole strategic card game world (never played Magic or anything like that growing up).

In a perfect world it would be way more strategically deep and rewarding but Blizz's goal isn't trying to build digital card chess, it's to make bank bro and drive a Range Rover.

HS has a playerbase that has been as high as 50m. How many people do you think actually give a **** about one pro leaving?

First of all, if that Reddit post is really the funniest or stupidest thing you have read in a while, you clearly do not read Reddit much.

Second of all, the guy's post is well-taken, so you can call me one of the stupidest people on this forum if you like. One Hearthstone pro is not going to make the game close down. The point is actually that the game has peaked, people are getting bored of it, and the player-base will eventually start to dwindle. The most popular Hearthstone streamer has made video with a similar sentiment in the last week.

When I was a kid, everybody played Magic: The Gathering. When I was in high school, Pokemon and Yugioh were very popular. Those games are still around. The games are not dead, and they make a profit, but nowhere near where they were fifteen years ago. I will guess that Hearthstone will still be around five years from now, with the same amount of expansions and everything, but I am willing to bet that the active player base won't be half of what is was at its peak.

There's zero evidence of the game peaking or in decline. There are still new people who start playing hearthstone daily.

If it was just people exiting the game, sure, you could say it has peaked.

I also imagine that every time I go play Path of Exile for awhile, there are people who return to Hearthstone. Hearthstone is one of those games you can put down.

It's not. He's widely considered one of the best players in the world, and one that has actually worked with the dev team.

I don't think someone like that just up and quits lightly.

You general point stands, but FWIW Magic is bigger now than it has ever been.

Tanking on App Store charts. Google Trends at all time low. Not looking good.

I personally doubt that is true, but if it is, it is nice to hear.

I don't trust any numbers blizz releases about their games. From what we've seen of this one, the stats they choose to publish really seem very cherry picked and unclear. Is the 50 million number just total downloads? Wouldnt surprise me

I feel like Hearthstone is analogous to WoW. WoW wasn't the first on the MMO scene but it was the biggest and best, and while it has dwindled in player base over time it still releases new content and has a dedicated following. I don't know my CCG history that well but Hearthstone beats Magic in online presentation but suffers from balancing issues, something that WoW doesn't seem to as far as I am aware. I dunno, Hearthstone may have peaked/is peaking/on the decline and there certainly is a problem with a lack of balancing, but I would be shocked at this point if another CCG like Eternal or Gwent or Hex ever comes close to reaching the success and audience that HS did. I tried Eternal for a few hours but it didn't hook me and I'm not going to bother dedicating time into multiple online CCG's. It may seem laughable to say at this point but all Hearthstone needs is one expansion to hit the mark in terms of balance and the players will re-commit.

If eternal had a mobile client on the itunes store i'd be playing a lot. I don't know why any of these new games can't roll out a decent app.

Yeah it seems bad right now because MSG was so bad and unbalanced, a good expansion will get a lot of people back

My HS addiction was ironically replaced with overwatch, but blizzard got my $35 for that instead of $50 3x a year. Not buying next expansion unless it blows me away.

The main problem with the game can be summed up in one thing: Power creep. Each expansion that get added to the card pool power creeps the game more and more and right now we have the highest number of expansions in the card pool. So when they remove TGT, BRM and LOE in April then the power level of the card pool will go down significantly (assuming they've learned the lessons from the last few xpacs).

Playing on mobile is convenient but my win % goes down 5-10% without a deck tracker software. I had given up on ladder recently but finally crafted Kazakus (no point in quitting the game with 13k dust saved up). Renolock is a really hard deck to play. I feel that potion RNG can make or break a match. But I was facing so many Reno mages that I switched to Jade Druid to farm them and went 8-1 from rank 8 to rank 5. I'm assuming it's also because the caliber of opponents at rank 5-10 is pretty low at this point in the season.

pretty likely that the expansion brings back hunter, because dinosaurs should all be beasts

blizzard claims they aim to make new cards 8/10

literally claiming they aim to make every expansion so power creeped that it makes up a huge amount of the meta and you cant win without it.

i think theyre bad at their jobs and there is little hope the game gets better. probably spiraling out of control now.
