It was originally a 2 mana card without the card draw, then they made it 1 mana without the card draw, then 2 mana with the card draw.

So you could look at this in two ways:

It was buffed in the sense that the original card temporarily went from 2 mana to 1 mana.

It was also buffed in the sense that the original card stayed at 2 mana but added a card draw.

didn't they give something a beast tag which was a buff?

Originally the summoned scarab wasn't a beast.

LOL, wow, I never knew about that one.

So obviously they don't have a long track record of doing things to make terrible cards even minutely less terrible. But, playing devil's advocate, I can understand this from the standpoint that, since they are releasing new cards many times a year, why not just print a new card rather than modify an old one (Ice Rager or Evil Heckler are obv examples). I'm sure there's some psychological difference where people would rather have a new card that is better than an old card (while still retaining said old card in their collection), rather than simply having that old card but with new stats.

Harvest Golem got the Mech tag once Mechs were introduced to the game.

It doesn't make sense for them to buff cards if you think about it because they can just print new more powerful versions of old cards, and that's pretty much what they do

What I do really like that they've been doing in the last few expansions is printing new cards that make old garbage cards playable

I get why from a business standpoint they don't want to just buff old cards, but I think at least part of it is that they don't want people to have to update the mobile client any more than necessary.

I think there's a lot of evidence too that the client as a whole is a giant piece of **** and any updates they do are extremely hard to implement

it is definitely true that i dont want to have to download a client update (on my pc, phone, and tablet) more than every 3 months or so

i just dont really care at all about the cards that arent played. doesnt impact my life one bit if silverback patriarch is a 1/4 or 2/4

a better ranked system is what i'd like to see. best would be a skill rating like overwatch with a parallel "climb" part for rewards, although it might piss off the incredibly large "i'm very good at this game but just don't have time to get to legend" crowd when they see that they actually aren't good and theres a reason the good players are at legend in a week

I'm not suggesting that they buff cards because they aren't played. I'm talking about making a few changes to cards that could inspire new archetypes.

Priest doesn't have any early game that doesn't revolve around dragons, and it doesn't even have good healing archetypes that aren't poor imitations of Renolock. Think about how weird that is. But if it had a 1/3 Light Warden that could be its own Mana Wyrm or Trogg, it could have the makings of something with Mistress, Farseer, Priest of the Feast, Lightwells, Greater Healing, etc.

Steward of Darkshire is another card that strikes me as something that should have decks built around it, but it's not quite good enough.

Bane of Doom was buffed. It used to only summon a subset of the weaker demons, was changed at some point to summon any demon.

Was probably changed solely to be less confusing than for any other reason.

I'm going to try to play only one deck this month, reno mage

The mirror is seriously the worst but i just made a jade shaman go to fatigue and i still had removal left. Pretty nuts how efficient the deck is.

I do wish the seasons didn't reset so quickly. One of the things I like about Clash Royale is that your ladder rank is your ladder rank and never gets reset unless you are above 4k trophies (equivalent to legend rank in HS).

I think they have found a decent balance of content releases. Release stuff too quickly and it requires too much money/time to keep up. Too slow and the meta gets stale. 3x a year of new releases is fine.

i can say every tcg Ive quit is because stuff got released too often for me to keep up

Well the mirror is basically sit around and make sure your handsize stays small untill you can Brann + Kazakus + Manic Soulstealer in the same turn to win the fatigue game. And at the same time dodge Dirty Rat with those combo pieces and your acolyte.

Lol, Reynad feeling the pressure from the competition, lashes out:

Good find, thanks. Can't be bothered to watch 30 mins of reynad salting away so I'll just make presumptions about what he's saying.

The response is really good. Good for them. VS is changing this game for the better and has certainly helped my game a ton. I recently started contributing my games to their project, everyone should do it. Their response also addresses a criticism that many have stated here, that the data can't be trusted because not everyone is playing x deck optimally.

The ONLY thing I like about TS anymore is they provide mulligans for decks, which gives me an idea of what other players are mulliganing for in decks i don't play often, or helps me to learn a new deck.

that whole reynard thing feels like the film moneyball.

old school experts who have secret knowledge + experience versus math guys who actually use data to support descions.

Could also apply to many other areas where this debate has been had even including poker in the early days.

This combo deactivates Reno, Kazakus until you draw whatever you copy.

Well Kazakus is on the board, once you draw your 2nd kazakus there will only be 1 copy remaining in your deck, meaning it's active again.

Reno is almost irrelevant in the mirror. Most games are decided by dying to fatigue, a few are decided by potion blowouts (reanimate 3 minions + 4 health bonus potion and opponent doesn't have the resources to fight through it for example). almost none come down to face damage.

Ice block usually tanks the first wave of face damage if that is attempted and then you heal out of range and opponent can't win because he used tooo many resources. That's why you usually keep your burn for board control and fatigue, wait untill fatigue would kill them through ice block and then burn them into range without popping the ice block.
Sure deactivating reno has some tiny risk because it opens up the burn gameplan, but the point at which you attempt this combo is usually when you have 0-3 cards in your library, so reno is quickly active again.

I'd play more Reno mage but I have no idea how to navigate the mirror.

Does anyone think adding dragons would help? Or Rag?

Generally, the greedier deck always seems to win in mirror matches.

I finished last season at rank 3, after hitting the last star on rank 2. Gave up the grind after going on a losing streak on NYE.

But I got to rank 10 this season, and it seems the games here have the same level of play as rank 2 on Dec. 30.

I'm guessing Reno Mage mirrors are sort of like Control Warrior mirrors back in the day?
