It seems that yesterdays wave was incredibly small, only a couple of "I got a key" posts on the forums and reddit. Lots of people starting to get frustrated with Blizzard though.
I'm not the type to post pointless ultimatums on internet forums... but if I get hex before hearthstone, I may not end up spending a few hundred on hearthstone packs like I had planned. :P
I hope this teasing is almost over and some real key waves go out soon.
If I don't get hearthstone before GTA V drops (incredibly likely) I will def not play any Hearthstone until it is more widely adopted and then I see myself playing for a couple weeks and quitting because I am terrible and feel like I got left out.
I wonder if it's better for them in terms of sales to keep with their old closed beta system compared to the companies that are doing the early release route. We've really only seen that model from indies and F2P games though, and not too many big names have gone that route that I can think of.
They've definitely been getting a ton of streaming coverage, but that's probably only a small portion of their overall market. I think they might do better to just open it now and ride the current hype wave from the gaming websites. Don't get me wrong, I would be shocked if they did, I don't think Activision would let them take that risk on an unproven business model. Look at how carefully they're approaching F2P and microtransactions with WoW.
I feel like the hype right now is going to slowly die if people are continually disappointed by not being part of beta releases.
Having never played a TCG seriously before, I have always been interested and now I feel like from watching steams I have enough knowledge to get out there and have fun. It would be way less fun if I have to continue to watch streams and basically learn all of my strat from a 3rd person perspective. I wanna get in the game!!
I dont think anyone's saying beta is a bad idea. Why cant blizzard make it open beta ? That's only going to speed up the process of balancing the game, fixing bugs, stress tests, etc.
If you think not enough people will be buying up decks, arena fees to justify the server costs then blizzard should never even think about releasing this game in the first place.
Either the higher ups know something major that we don't or they are stubborn idiots who think they are making some kind of genius marketing decision.
Yea, I mean I just can't imagine a scenario where super casual to the point of non-existent TCG fans such as myself being denied part of this temporary hysteria is a good idea.
Why not charge $19.99 and allow everyone to register into an open beta for like 3 days, and then lock it for a week or two, rinse and repeat.
