so i've been playing wonky rogue decks at legend, stuff with schemes that abuses warriors, because **** those guys

mostly hovering around rank 500 - but i've run into this shaman player who is top 100 legend twice and beat him twice

and got a salty ass friend invite twice, lol

"your deck sucks, that's why youre 500 legend"

Hey guys I need advice

I just came back after not playing since Naxxramas and while I enjoy to play, the endless stream of mech decks is making me contemplate suicide. It's at least 75% of the games I play and it's making me lose my mind, I probably lose about 75-80% of the games vs mech.

Is the deck I use. It feels good and I can make it work but I need an almost perfect draw to beat mech, while it feels like they have a strong draw virtually every game just from the nature of the deck.

I've tried various strategies about different mulligan, clearing the board or not, playing big or many minions but literally anything seems to be countered by some 1 or 2 cost mech unit..

There's obviously the human factor in that I also make mistakes, but even in the games where I'm pretty sure I don't make any blunders, I still lose a lot of the games.


Is this deck weak against mech or do I need to play differently (and if it is weak, how should I change it)?

Shark + novice in your list is bad vs aggro and is the likely reason for your bad winrate vs mech hunter. This is my anti-aggro lackey vendetta list:



There's some flexibility in there, the last 2 cards are probably scheme/thalnos. You could change it to second sap if you see a lot of mage, rat if you want more consistency for togwaggle, or underbelly fence to make the matchup vs aggro even better.

Thanks for sharing your deck. I'm trying it out with Thalnos and scheme as I had Thalnos already.

Have played two games vs aggro (one of them hunter, who was particularly difficult with the old deck) and both were easy... until I misclicked in the first and attacked a whelp with Leeroy, that is. lol.

How do you mulligan usually, I'm kinda confused as to what's good and what isn't (except for like EvC and backstab)

vs. aggro on the play you're looking for backstab. It's just so important. I'll keep miscreant and fox/vendetta if they're together. Toss everything else. On the coin, keep si:7, edwin, miscreant, backstab. Miscreant is your best card, if you have that, you can start keeping some turn 4 or 5 plays becuase it just smoothes the curve so nicely.

I swapped scheme for another sap because I'm running into quite a few mages. Good vs mech as well and helps me with the board tremendously and removing sticky taunts if I have lethal. Scheme felt kinda awkward, and most of the time if I'm at a point where I need to rely on good draws, it's already looking grim. Perhaps I'm not utilizing it optimally.

The grind is on. It's going slow but decent and I seem to fluctuate between a winning streak and losing streak. Best rank today has been close to rank 12 (lol) but I also had some MASSIVE blunders today (including missing lethal because I forgot I could backstab grommash lol). I blame sleep deprivation. I think I'm improving but I would probably still benefit from reading a guide or watching a video of someone playing a similar deck, does anyone happen to have such link?

Best thing would be to find a streamer who plays your deck and watch them. There are plenty of competitive streamers out there who play well

It's unlikely that most guides are going to have tips like "Don't forget that you can Backstab your Grommash." Interactions like those are what makes Rogue decks so fun, imo. I have definitely let autopilot take over and missed opportunities that I didn't put together until it was too late.

Watching a streamer play a similar deck is a great way to improve. You can think about what you would do in their situation, and when they make a play that differs from what you would do, try to figure out why. I think I tend to be too greedy with things like SI-7 agent. I'll see Kibler just throw one out on turn 3 without a combo enabler, just to get a minion on board. So when I was looking at the card as 2 damage with a 3/3 body, he saw that his best play was to get the tempo of a 3/3, realizing that if he lost a ton of tempo, the value of the 2 damage later wouldn't be enough to turn the game back in his favor.

Haha no yeah I realize the grommash thing isn't exactly something you guides will tell you to do :P

I've sold my soul to the devil and am now rank 9 after going 10-2 with this FOTM deck https://hsreplay.net/decks/i9FjITuDopBvyhcUkL2ich/. It's nowhere near as enjoyable as the rogue one, but for climbing the ladder it's much faster (and way easier)

I've won 39 of 59 games and am now rank 5 after a day of grinding. I absolutely destroy rogues (10-1) and everything except druids, paladins (tied) and other hunters I have a positive win against.

Was peak at rank 3 equaling my best ever but have now dropped down to 5 and struggling to win. Have changed UTH for Flark to see if that helps. I'm seeing a lot of druid rn so I'm gonna try this token druid because it ironically seems to counter other token druids (along with virtually everything else I see a lot) https://hsreplay.net/decks/rhBKOb3Ne.../#tab=overview

I think that the game is in a great spot. They've been more communicative and more active in balancing the game in the last year or so. It's been trending in the right direction, imo.

they've been adding a new secret hate card every expansion after the old one rotates, I guess they were running out of ways of reinventing the wheel and just put one in the classic set.

Literally don’t know what priest meta looks like without mind blast, but a 5hp heal definitely doesn’t cut it.

I wish they would just say, hey look here are cards x y and z that are possible future options for rogue. But with vanish these cards are a problem because they enable this deck (probably mill) and we don’t want that in standard because it will be unbalanced and unhealthy for the game.

Great, I respect it. Instead we get a list of weaknesses and strengths for each class that pigeon holes each class into a distinct play style. Which is just bad, imo. Different classes are innately better at different things, but entirely removing a classes ability to do something fundamental is bad.

And that’s what their post is basically saying they are going to do. It’s a letter of intent saying rogue is never getting another board clear. Druid is never seeing another card like mulch. They are making the game smaller - when you queue up against certain classes you can know with 100% certainty that this class has zero options vs certain strategies. This isn’t about vanish specifically, I’m fine with the card going away. It obviously restricts what neutral minions you can print. It’s just become very clear after that blizz’s opinion is that classes shouldn’t just be bad at certain things, they should not be able to do them at all.

Which I think is a shame. It’s more interesting when you don’t know if this rogue is aggro or tempo or miracle or whatever. And that’s going away. People should be allowed to play bad off meta decks if they want to.

Regardless, I am happy that they are taking more of an active role in balance changes, that is a positive in all this.
