I also play it next to annoy o tron. I expect explosive shot more often in arena than I expect something helpful to pop out of the shredder, especially while the other two are still alive.

re: 12 win arenas

ratsmah removed his 12 win counter. The last time I looked he was way off, I guess it isn't so easy as even the best players realize.

Then again with a little positive variance he could still make it.

Been in a long, weird drought with no 12-wins while trying to achieve 12s with the 3 classes I hadn't yet (Shaman, Hunter, Warrior). I haven't been doing poorly exactly, but it's seriously not been uncommon at all for me to start 7-0 or 9-0 and then collapse in the 8-10 range. Been having a hard time even hitting 11. Somehow busted out of it with this warrior after starting 1-2 and having very little faith in the deck going much further.

First loss at 1-0 was dirty. Lightspawn played against me turn 4. Then power word: shield, power word: shield, divine spirit to hit me for 18. I drew but couldn't find my owls or any taunt so that was game.

9th win I had to play a yolo bomb lobber to kill a 4-health ancient of war on a board of 4 minions just for a chance to topdeck lethal the next turn. No sweat.

11th and 12th wins were easy wins against the same paladin. First game I got overrun by my own draw engines, hit a big battle rage and started milling cards with cult master. Second game I rushed him down so fast that by the time he could play equality/consecration on turn 6, he had 1 health and I still had a death's bite in my hand.

Anyway, seems like a weird deck to finally succeed with. As I was drafting, it felt like I was taking half an aggro deck and half a control deck and mushing them together, but I guess it started tilting more towards aggro with the Fel Reaver. I was coming off a string of warriors going 9 and 10 wins that all felt a lot more powerful and cohesive. The one before this had Black Knight and Onyxia! Whatever works though.

he just took the challenge down yesterday, and then immediatly got 2 back to back, when tgt comes out there will be so many noobs in the arena pool, he should keep trying.

Not shown: Sludge Belcher, 2x Argent commander, 1x sprint

Questing Adventurer behind a sludge belcher is an auto win. Lots of weapon moves in Rogue too. Now have three 12's in my life. Two rogue, one hunter. Good arena classes are overrated.

What is good advice for someone who hasn't been playing long enough to experience a new set of cards injected into arena?

What are those first few days like? What types of things do you expect? What kind of little edges arise?

The advice is to enjoy it, of course. It is by far the best week or two of hearthstone.

When gvg launched I legit took every gvg card for the first 10 arenas, mainly bc they were released before you could buy them and i wanted to PLAY THE NEW STUFF

this wasn't the best strategy as i passed up a lot of good cards, but who cares amirite?

anyway, the edge comes from people recognizing pretty quickly the new synergies and strong cards and making wise picks, while acknowledging new stuff to play around or play into. this is a massive edge actually and if you're a serious arena player and play competitively (as in, not just take the new cards because THEY ARE NEW) i wouldn't be surprised if win rates increased by 10%+ for the next 2 or 3 weeks while the dust settles

Thanks, Rob.

I'm hopelessly addicted to HS arena. A potential 10% win-rate uptick for a few weeks is really exciting.

Seems like a lot of the edge will be gauging baseline arena value & synergies of new cards and applying to drafts before public/heartharena catches up. Could be fun to do a pre-TGT arena ranking estimate here on 2+2 and compare to heartharena in a few months.

If you had to first pick a pally arena, are you taking Kodo or equality?

Spoiler:
heartharena says kodo but i think i disagree

They both have similar situational value, but the Kodo is more consistent. say your topdecking and both boards are empty, the kodo can be played while equality cannot. This is generally why you want to select minions early in a draft.
This Guy's Deck is Crazzzzy (Arena Banter) Quote

I think both are great cards, but my metric in this spot is I'm always happy taking a 2nd Kodo whereas unless I have a specific token type deck or a ton of early game / aggro or combos like pyro and consecrate I rarely want a 2nd equality since the 2nd equality loses so much utility

so, I take Kodo over equality, even though equality may be SLIGHTLY better on the whole

AOE is overrated as a mage. Polymorph is an excellent card.

Played the last guy four consecutive times. He had Tirion and equality/consec combo and four weapons. I went 3-1 and ruined his night.

Kodo and it's not even close. Yes, Equality can be a bomb in some situations, but in other situations, it's a complete dud. Consistency is important.

I just played against a mage who had 3 secrets in his deck. Turn 3 I coined out kezan and stole one of them. it was duplicate. Needless to say, none of his secrets triggered. LOLMADSCIENTISTNERF
