I think i've played over 15 arenas now and haven't got more than 4 wins, which i achieved once. I do ok in constructed but I cannot buy a win in arena. Its seriously depressing.

You'll get there Donk. I was in the same boat just a few weeks ago, my last 6 runs or so I'm averaging like 5 wins. My problems were making bad trades, playing too fast, and not knowing when to trade vs race. That last one is probably the next leap.

played some about a year ago, got frustrated a little. Giving it another go, still working out the basics. It is a lot of fun when it comes together and you win, lol

Do you use a drafting site?

I'm not experienced in arena much, but from watching Kripp and hafu and others it seems like drafting is important. Once you are playing it just seems like who can spam the board the best and control it.

Yeah I use heartharena most of the time

Sticking with being f2p right now, only unlocking packs through grinding the ladder quests. Doing the Druid daily quest currently. Actually winning quite a few with the start off deck, haven't even unlocked everything yet. So much fun when things come together, still learning what works well together.

I would suggest grabbing Naxx for money at some point as it will take you a month to unlock it all. Also, you might want to look on Icy Veins website for aggro decks. Zoo warlock, facehunter, and mech mage probably are the fastest decks to build and will make grinding your daily gold easier.

Hunter is definitely the easiest class to acquire a competitive deck with, dust cost wise. I have every card I'll ever (well, not ever ever) need for it now. I can't say the same for any other class.

Zoo and mech aren't too expensive. If you open up gvg packs then you should be able to put together minus Antonidas and Dr Boom. Which I don't think you need either to win. I played Mech mage for a couple days and was owning a lot of people, but not as much as I could without those two cards.

I legitimately think I'm the worst arena player hearthstone has ever seen.

I can't even identify what's going wrong I just get battered in every game I play.

What constructed style do you play

I've been grim patron warrior this month at ranked.

I've achieved 4 wins only the once, today i've had 2x 2 wins and 1x 0 wins, warrior, paladin and hunter

I think if I randomly selected every card and randomly chose every action in game, i'd have a much better winrate

i think if you want to go the free to play route grinding arena is the way to go. it puts you on even footing and if you are somewhat decent you will earn packs a lot quicker than doing quests and playing constructed.

I have a little over 1700g and want to use it all towards Arena. If anything, I get to experience a lot of cards that I might never own, at least 3 games, and I'll get a card pack out of it. I think it'll be worth more to use my gold for Arena rather than to buy 17 card packs.

Somebody posted a comparison a while ago (goose?) of their collection at 2k ranked/ 1k arena wins with someone who had the inverse. The arena player was well on their way to a golden collection, while ranked was still missing a bunch of tier 2 and 3 legs. So in conclusion, play lots of arena if you want a better collection

Lurk--the problem with that is now you only get GVG packs from Arena and GVG has marginal cards in comparison to classic as a whole. But you are right, as a whole arena is a better investment especially if you can get good at it. Problem is the early learning curve is rough when it comes to Arena for beginners. For a while you are going to be winning 1-3 games and losing your investment but eventually it'll pay off. To get a good collection you should be playing arena and then buying the expansions and then buying classic packs as you can.

you can often break even (i.e. get at least 50 gold) with only 2 or 3 wins

you need to average about 7 wins to "go infinite" but the loss at 3-4 wins is negligible especially if you assign any value to the playing and learning aspects

i also think arena teaches you sound basics. the value of tempo, cardadvantage and boardcontrol and when to give up on one of them to benefit in the other.

The dust value > equivalent gold value once you get to the stage that most packs are duplicates too, right?

I think my suggestion would be to try and maintain a 'bankroll' of 4-500 gold for Arena and just drop 500 on classic packs whenever you hit 1k. Obviously it'll take a while to reach the point where you can tread water/turn a profit with dailies, but you'll get plenty of packs and dust in the process of learning.

I'd also suggest buying both expansions for money if you enjoy the game. Blackrock does open up viable & fun control deck options for new players with limited card pools, even if they're not necessarily optimal (which will help with not getting too frustrated trying to clear that 5 win warrior quest etc)

I didn't think of this. Would it be a reason to maybe not play Arena? I don't have much in the way of competitive cards.
