I purchased Naxx my first day or two after starting and made it through with just the basic cards pretty easily. Think there was only one or two spots that took a few tries. Hardest thing was a class challenge where you use a premade deck if I remember correctly.

I think this depends on class. The first wing of BRM radically increased the speed in which I could farm gold with my warrior. Haven't really used Patrons with Mage because there's better things to use. But I would recommend BRM wing 1 and then Naxx for warriors at least.

I'm also questioning using gold for ladder now. Kripp and hafu both have stated they find laddering to be either boring or a joke since you see the same thing and they just play arena. kripp has a buttload of gold and dust from just Arena, to the point he could afford the entire Naxx wing. So I'm wondering if I should start playing arena considering prizes.

icy veins has guides for all the fights with example decks which often include basic only decks

I've found that icy vein is very good. Their basic decks give me plenty of play in ranked up to rank 15 or so.

Play whichever one you find more fun/interesting.

At this point should I just pick a class and play only that one going forward for the time being? If so, suggestions on a class? I really don't have any preference but also don't care if it's not the OP meta class currently.
i think focussing on one class for the time beeing is a smart move for 2 reasons.
first of all you will learn to play that class properly and you will have a competetive deck earlier if you focuss on a single class.

i would advise to pick either druid or hunter sinc eboth of those clasees never really left the metagame at any point. they might not have been the strongest class but they have always been somewhere in between playable and totally ****ing op.

My initial pick would have been druid actually - just the idea of wild growth/innervate and boosting my mana pool quickly to gain advantage is something that is just in line with my tastes.

I just went 1/3 in two consecutive arena runs, it's clear I'm truly pathetic at this game. Complete and utter ****** of the highest order like everything I try and do.

Is there any good resources to get better? I've watched some of trumps videos.

You can use HearthArena to help you draft, just taking every one of the picks it tells you should give you a functional deck. Keep in mind Arena is much different than constructed. Take a look at the arena thread in this sub, there are some very helpful posts in there too.

Yeah, I'm terrible at arena still is the only problem. I've bought like 50 packs so far with real money. I don't plan to buy many more, but who knows. I'm super addicted.

Is Dr. Boom still the card to craft if I can make a legendary?

This is now my go to game since it became available on mobile.

I play a ramp druid and probably looking to build up shaman next. I have cenarius and alexstrasza (goat luck in buying 20 pack, also got 2 ancient of lores and the war ancient)

Found this card lists on reddit. It's a list of neutral cards that one might want to craft, sorted by rarity (but not including legendaries). Basically cards that are popular in the meta.

Corresponding list of important class cards, including legendaries this time:

Hey guys

Just started the game a couple days ago, karak introduced me to it.

Been mostly playing with mage since I'm just comfortable with it at this point. Got up to like 17 in ranked matches and am now 18. Haven't spent money yet, no legendary cards etc. Did some paladin today for my quest.

Read the thread, seems to be some good resources here so thanks for that. Guess the consensus is to get 700g for the "naxx wing"? No idea what that means, lol, but I've done 3 arenas and am 2/3 each time so not good enough at crafting a deck yet.

Think what I need to do is play all the classes up to 10 so I can learn their strengths and weaknesses. Probably will invest money at some point but not ready to come yet. Any other suggestions?

Here is what I'm running with mage now fwiw:

(2)
Frostbolt x2
Acidic swamp ooze x2
Loot hoarder
Mad bomber
(3)
Arcane intellect
Ironfur grizzly
Shattered sun cleric x2
Soot spewer
(4)
Cone of cold
Fireball x2
Poly x2
Chillwind yeti x2
Gnomish inventor
Piloted shredder
Senjin shield x2
Water elemental x2
(6)
Boulderfist ogre x2
Flame strike x2
(7)
Stormwind champion
(8)
Force tank max

Any obvious suggestions for my desk or just general random noob tips? My gut says I could drop an ooze or the Gnomish for a frost nova.

Thanks all

Frost nova is terrible outside 1 or 2 very defined decks, so dont swap them in

really though this is a basic card deck, mages prob have the best basic cards so it makes sense to play it. i'd call this a "solid" deck

Ironfur grizzly is the only card you're running that's considered weak. Razorfen Hunters considered weak too but with two Shattered Sun Clerics and a Stormwind Champion it might be a better choice.

Here's some links to basic decks--decks you build with only the basic cards, then only basic, plus the cards from the Naxxramas adventure, then another guide for basic + Naxx + Blackrock Mountain

http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/...n_deck_guides/

The guides also include a listing of what cards to substitute in once you start building a collection of cards.

If you are gonna spend money on the game you should use it on the adventures(Naxx and BRM) and use gold on packs. Saving up 700 gold to use on the first Naxx wing is for free 2 play players and people who don't like money.

44€ or 7000 gold gets you both the adventures
45€ or 4000 gold gets you 40 packs

you make it sound so much more fun when you call it an adventure

Thank you for that link. Gave me some ideas on how to make a grim patron deck for the daily quest. I'd been holding off on making one since I don't have the cards to do a "standard" one and now I'm sorry I had. What a fun deck.

Are there cliffs for all the acronyms used in the threads? I don't know what most of them mean and can't figure out out

So far I think I know BGH = big game hunter

So far I think I know BGH = big game hunter
Naxx = Curse of Naxxramas adventure

BRM = Blackrock Mountain adventure

Hearthstone uses so many acronyms, though, that you might just want to ask what a particular acronym means, because people talking about the game tend to use acronyms without thinking about it first.

You got BGH right.

UTH = Unleash the Hounds

OTK = one turn kill

F2P = Free to play

There's a glossary here: http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/.../12505792279#1
