New players get a run down on house rules. The biggest part of that is "this is a social game, expect a lot of chatter some of which would be inappropriate in a more formal setting". Don't smoke or vape in the house. Don't bring drugs in the house - if you have to take a toke, do that outside too. Don't get excessively drunk/stoned. Please keep your firearms in the car or better at home. Please be friendly and social - avoid the hoodie, sun glasses & ear bud act. Don't make the game wait while you are playing on your phone, risking the loss of your hand. Hands are tabled immediately when everyone is all-in.

I don't tell players things that seem obvious. I assume they know not to cheat. I assume the players know how to use a toilet and flush it. I assume they know not to kick the dog. Please don't "harvest" my vintage poker chips.

Sometimes obvious things need saying, but I wait until those types of things emerge. Still there are rare surprises where I am dumfounded by an act of stupidity. I don't have standing rules for such things. They get dealt with as a one time event.

There has never been a soon-to-be new player walk away after hearing the house rules.

I have three players on life-ban for being bad and breaking the rules. None of these are firearm violations.

It is ridiculous that anyone, just because he has a concealed carry permit, would assume everyone would be ok with one being brought in their house without asking first.

Would you come into someone's house for the first time and immediately disrobe and take a dump on the kitchen table? I'm pretty sure that's legal.

Some good points have been made here about Home Games players and Host responsibilities by responders. OP was an obvious Troll trying to get a rise out of folks by pretending to be a gunslinger in a tough neighborhood, still OP managed to get some folks to make some valuable retorts on guns and games. Not all a waste at all!

The rules of several private games I’ve played in specifically prohibited players from carrying firearms. I doubt anyone was ever searched though.

If somebody brought a weapon into my house, for whatever event we’re holding, he would be kicked out and banned immediately. I guess with a good friend, I would give one warning but I highly doubt any of my friends would ever do that. Bringing your gun into a house where kids live is an absolute no-no. At least if you don’t live in a rural area.

That all makes sense to me, the way Dr.Strange posted about him and his wife catching people is what made me start to wonder. I will make the point that if that if no guns whatsoever is your positon, then its a fallacy to permit LEO to bring them to the game.

Us country bumpkins don't take our guns into the homes of our hosts. We know they have plenty for the lot of us if needed.

Nerf gun. In extreme circumstances (host has kids): water pistol.

Damn, a vest too? lol

I started carrying a Sig P365 now that the weather is warmer. I much prefer a Glock 19 or similar sized polymer gun. I shoot competitively and can absolutely say that a small back up gun is a handicap compared to compact or full-size. I shot both sub-compacts and compacts in IDPA and even though I put more down the tube per month than most do in a year my times were much MUCH slower.

I carry everywhere I am legally abled though, so the fact it's at a home game is a moot point.

However, I would add that even though you might trust everyone and feel comfortable with your buddies at the home game doesn't mean you couldn't find yourself in a situation that necessitated the legally justified use of lethal force. At the end of the day, home games, especially ones that run every week are places where there are a ton of cars parked out front and a big ol' stack of cash on the inside. It does not take a casual observer or someone walking around the neighborhood very long to figure out what is going on.

For me personally, I want to avoid a violent physical encounter of ANY kind at all costs. With that being said, I also feel a duty to protect myself and those I am responsible for if the situation warranted it. Hopefully, neither myself or anyone reading this will ever find themselves in such a situation.

You may be legally able to carry in a home game, but as a matter of etiquette, it's best to clear it with the host in advance. His house, his rules.

If I catch you with a gun in my house, you will get one warning then a life ban.

If my wife catches you with a gun in the house, you will be on the street ASAP and life banned.

Exception for LEOs who are "must carry" employees.

Why? Because I believe in math
. That a gun carried into my house is much more likely to end up causing harm to my family or one of the players than it is to safe someone's life. I do not give a **** about a few hundred bucks lost to a robbery.

Even stipulating an armed robbery is going to take place, I think the chances are that a gun fight will result in more damages to life and property than the economic losses from a theft. I appreciate there is a chance that the robbery also ends up in one or more people getting shot without provocation. But I can't help but think a gun fight between player(s) and the robbers is far more likely than a cold blooded killing.

If one of my players wants to play "cops & robbers" fine. Just not at my house. If someone is all that concerned about their safety, the best bet is to buckle seatbelts to/from the game.

DrStrange
Can u explain the maths for why LEO's are welcome to carry but avg JOE's are not?

Law Enforcement Officers are far better trained than an average joe. Not only trained in the use of a firearm, but also trained how to deal with situations as well.

For the most part, a LEO is screened for mental stability prior to being hired and issued a pistol. In some cased they are rescreened on an on-going basis. Perhaps the elected LEOs might not have this qualification, but the substantial majority of LEOs are hired not elected.

I expect LEOs will have better judgement if confronted with a threatening situation. I expect LEOs will not drink themselves into incompetence. I expect the LEOs not to get so angry that the use of their firearm becomes an option in a dispute over cards.

I live in a gated community. You have to pass through armed security to join in my game. There is a substantially bigger risk of firearm foolishness than an armed intruder come into my home. No one needs a pistol in my house for their personal protection.

LEOs are not carrying a firearm for personal protection in my cheeseburger stakes, gated community card game. They carry because the official duties of a police officer can intrude on their personal life in a moment's notice.

No doubt there are plenty of average Joes in the world who could be trusted to exercise good judgement with their pistol. Sadly, there are plenty who don't appear to have such good judgement. There is not a prudent personal protection reason to carry a gun in my house.

I appreciate the risk is not huge - either of an armed robbery or of a idiot discharging his/her firearm. But I do not have to accept the risk of an average Joe being stupid. Lock your pistol in the car. Leave it at home. It isn't asking so much for the privilege of visiting my home and enjoying an evening of cards.

I sit in the cockpit of my M1 Abrams Tank at home games. I drive it through basement walls to get to the table. I am also wearing a Kevlar helmet, vest with steel plat (in the back, duh, for snipers) and carry my M1911 sidearm in a thigh holster and have my M16 by my side. All-in mo fos!! Who's calling that shizz??

I don't carry a gun in my home games but I pat down then punch anyone that walks through the door square in their mouth so they know not to mess around.

They get the message.

I don't carry a gun - I carry two guns - Glock 26 and a Ruger .380 back up.

But not to my home games. My House Rules state:

"26. Miscellaneous. Please check your guns, knives, swords, and other weapons at the door; no guns allowed (except for the House)". The exception is to keep them wondering.

Now I've been to games when everyone was carrying. My rules also state:

"when in a combat zone please clear all weapons and remove the magazine."

Down range you HAVE to keep your weapon with you at all times.

When I hosted games, the rule was LEOs can carry (they're required to carry off-duty where I lived then) & anyone else carrying is banned, for reasons stated above. I just wasn't comfortable with people drinking themselves to excess while CCing.
