Hi all,

I have created a club for poker at my college with the intent of holding meetings to go over strategy/hands etc. Many people have asked me to set up games so we can actually play. At first I wanted to hold them off campus, but my place is way too small to hold a game, so I decided to make them on campus games. Would there be any way to set up these games for money, but no money to be exchanged at the time of the game? I do not want to get in trouble with the university. My first thought would to have people "register" beforehand and pay their buy in before the game starts like maybe a day in advance, and then I would cash them out after the game ends (would use venmo). That way I can keep it a controlled environment without any randoms showing up.

Does anyone else have any ideas/suggestion?

Would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Play on a Pokerstars play money homegame table, and then settle up later, is how we used to do it. If you don't know everyone well, there might need to be some sort of escrow.

Be aware that a very strict college might still consider this gambling, though. Depends on the school and the state.

Hypothetically speaking We "had"
"tournaments with a first place prize of educational books related to statistics, or poker. You had the option of contributing money to the club. It was understood that you would get a prize "payout" if you contributed based on your finish. If anyone said it involved "gambling"we denied it.

Find a place off campus to play. Someone somewhere is bound to have a room. Alternatively, if there's a poker room near you if you bring a full table of players they'll often let you arrange a table with them filling it as people leave.

Given the modern social environment, you're just too prone to ending up with problems. You're still bound by a code of conduct typically anywhere you go for really bad things, but I can't see anyone in a college caring about an off campus poker game.

You can check with your local laws. Typically making money from something like this is illegal. If its $50 to play for 10 people because you're hiring a dealer, providing NAB's, food, etc, and pocketing nothing then it's a different conversation than you're banking $500 for an illegal poker game.

Have fun!

Hi, I am currently planning to set up a private poker event, too. Any tips on how to provide more statistics during the game? Like current bank roll of each player, pre-flop behaviour etc.? Playing online gives you so much opportunity but during face-to-face poker it is kind of boring for a data guy like me.

Nothing kills action like showing people their data. If you gather this data, never share it with other players.
