Moving to my new house soon and am looking for an affordable poker table. I stumbled upon this http://www.mrcpoker.com/poker-tables...6-poker-tables and am wondering what are your thoughts on this?

We play poker maybe once every 2 months and they are usually social games with very little money involved. I am wondering if this type of poker table will be sufficient for my need.....

Any advice would help!

The top is made of MDF which is heavy as hell and is more likely to sag than plywood. I'd much rather find a table with a top of made of plywood.

Question #1: How many people do you usual have playing?
Question #2: Self-dealt or full time dealer?
Question #3: What sort of table do you already having (dining room, etc)?
Question #4: Are you (or the majority of your game) gaming set-up snobs?

Yeah, they lost me at MDF. MDF is to be avoided.

And I'm not a fan of cupholders in the table top. It's not the worst, but you'll have cards and chips drop in them all the time.

I looked at the BBO tables but the problem is that they cost more for my irregular home games. Is BBO's quality alot better than the one I posted on OP? Is it worth paying 33% more?

Yes, they're worth paying 33% more. Or, alternatively, see if you can find someone locally who makes tables and/or look into doing it yourself.

^this. If you want the best table for the least amount of money, make one for yourself.

Where are you located? There's poker table builders on both the east and west coast of Canada so that you might be able to avoid shipping costs. MRC and BBO are attractive because they offer free shipping.

Also more than likely that the "suited" speed cloth with a custom white betting line is dog**** material and will not be waterproof. I'd steer clear. I would say if you're going to use it at least a couple times per month get something decent. Plus what eneely said

i live in edmonton.......really hard to decide if i want to spend thousands on a nice one or just go with a cheap ones......We get a game about once every 2 months so its not that often. I do plan on trying to get a game going more once I move into my new house.

You could always do it in stages. Buy a semi-decent table with plans to make it upgradable in the future. Start with folding legs, upgrade to pedestals then maybe a dining table cover

I think ill go with 1 of those folding legs and then if I can get a regular game going I will want to invest in a nice looking table like

im guessing something like that will cost me upwards of $3k+....correct me if im wrong

Option 2 - upgrade your top

The one you posted is ultra crappy (from experience). Try ordering a neoprene one like this:



I have one similar and it's MUCH better than the average cheapo poker table sold online and costs ~ $45. Cost/Benefit is much better.

If you buy a dedicated poker table go the extra mile and get something decent IMO.

We use one of these neoprene toppers at work for games after we knock off and everyone loves it.

I second the recommendation to buy one of these and use it until you decide to build your own or buy a quality table!

Is that a poker hoody or is that an actual top you put on top of a regular table?

It's a mat that lays on top of your table. MRC Poker has similar mats under the "Table Tops and Layouts section".

I have one of those and it is not bad. I miss the rail on my old table, but I don't have room for it now.

It's like a giant mouse pad. I found the neoprene too thin to provide the proper give, so I added a base layer of plain old 1/4 inch foam rubber, and the combination works great.

As an alternative....I just made my own table topper. It turned out to be really cheap and easy. I haven't added a rail yet, but plan to in the future.

I bought a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" plywood at home depot, cut there to have it fit my existing table dimensions (it can be 1/2" thin because it's sitting on a table already and you don't need to worry about warping).

I already had a staple gun and staples which you will need.

My total was about $110 and took a weekend morning to make. I glued the extra foam on the bottom of the topper to protect the table underneath and even it out. Works like a charm. Check out the photos below:

Though that table is pretty custom with the colors, it doesn't have anything spectacularly expensive on it. No custom cloth, the legs are just rectangular columns which are just painted. It should be closer to half of your estimate. (Child not included)

I have that table and like you maybe have 5-6 games a year at my house. Have had the table for 3+ years and no issues at all. My oldest son has even had a couple games on it in the last month while home on summer break and even the inconsiderate college kids haven't hurt it yet.

IMO unless your running a weekly game you can get away with this for a years as long as you store it vertically when not in use.

I bought a cheaper version 10 yrs ago during the poker boom for $99 + free shipping. It started coming apart at the bottom so my buddy ( Mr home improvement guy ) put a bunch of 1" screws in the bottom. It works good. Still chugging along. Kinda cheap but it works.

If I was going to do it over again, I would do what DolphiNny5 did; those folding tables are cheap at Sam's Club, and that green folding top is $99 I think. That's a perfect set-up because both parts fold up and you can use that table for non-poker uses, BBQ or whatever. That's a sweet set-up.
