Need some help. I want to create a weekly series home game style that will serve to a wsop buy in. (1500 ) I figure 40-80 dollars should be sufficient per week. I want a weekly winner( or two) as well as a cummulative winner. I figure a points awarded basis for winning should be kept . 5 for the win 3 for second etc etc. most point after 45 or so weeks gets buy in and spending money for 2015 series. I figure I can get about 4-6 people interested per week. but I dont wanna discourage someone down in the rankings to throw in the towel so I need a decent weekly prize. THoughts please

Where I live a guy runs a tournament series at two different bars a couple times a week. I think the season is like 6 months long. If you final table these (free) tournaments you gain points. At the end of the season the top X amount of people have one more tournament. The winner of that gets the buy in for a bracelet event. They are free to enter, but if you buy food or drinks from the bar you get extra starting chips as incentive to support the bar.
They get a decent turn out, but I doubt many people would show if they had to pay to play.

I've never done this sort of league, but since there are not a lot of posts (yet), I will share that there are some good detailed threads on this topic. You can find links to them near the bottom of post #3 of the FAQ.

My friends are trying to set up the same thing, only on a smaller scale. We have not worked out the schedule or point system yet but what are doing is making our own league.

Every 2nd week we meet for poker, and each game we chip 1$ into a buy in pool (we only play 5-10$ games) We are going to track points and the point leaders will play in a satellite for a 75% buy in to a local tournament with the money.

If that person actually wins anything substantial they keep 50% and 50% gets divided through the league players weighted by how much they contributed (not by score)

We are pretty low key so getting bought into a $200 local tournament is exciting for us. We decided that the person who is bought in will have to pay a part of their way, about 25% so they are playing with a portion of "their money"

We are just starting and will let you know how it goes.

Did you pull this off? Our group has done almost exactly what you are looking for.

I suppose its to late for this year's WSOP, but we've altered the system to send people to some of the regional tournaments that have larger buy'ins as well.

I did one for a Circuit ME Seat a year or so ago. I'll see if I can dig the up details in a bit.

So the way we worked it was this:

Tournament Fee: $300 (this covered the tournament champion prizes)
Each Tournament: $60 (this covered the prizes for the monthly tournament)

We ran a total of 5 tournaments, and points were awarded based on where you finished (10 pts for being the first out and 110 pts for first place). Top points earner got a $2000 main event package for the Cherokee Circuit Event. The rest of the money went into the prize pool for the consolation tournament (everyone but the first place league finisher got into the consolation tournament). For the consolation tournament, the starting stack was determined by the number of events you attended. If you attended all five, you started with a full stack. If you missed one, you started with a smaller stack.

For the ME seat, everyone else in the group had 10% equity in the person going. So if they cashed, 10% after taxes went to the group to be split between them.

This forum cannot be used to discuss pokerstars home games. No more posts on that, please.
