Well I bet that this is the beginning of the end of the poker clubs in Texas.

Mods should probably move this to the sub-thread.

Would not put is as a "beginning of the end" event. A late-night shooting in a robbery could happen anywhere, including just coming out of a bar (they happen OFTEN in the poor parts of town in major metropolitan areas but tend not to make the news because poor peeps). What I could see problematic for THIS particular room is litigation if it was determined that they failed to provide proper security on behalf of its clientele.

Whether the civil matter gains traction or not would depend on far more variables and factors than could reasonably be discussed here. I have no idea what sort of security that room was providing for its clientele. The better rooms DO take steps to have armed security that patrols both the room AND the parking lots.

They have one armed security guard inside just walking around. Moving forward they should have him (security) watch people walk to their cars. So many easy targets leaving the poker room with thousands in their pockets late at night is a recipe for disaster. Sucks feel bad for the victim. **** the piece of **** who did this obviosily but they should take more measures to make sure this doesn't happen again.

After playing here twice, I was surprised to the naked eye at the lack of security. Yes, they have 1 armed guard there, but I have to imagine they have 40K+ plus in various places at all times. This would be much easier to rob than a bank. No security in a large dark parking lot (I only played during the day). I honestly surprised it took this long for something to happen.

As far as this being the beginning of the end for places like this, that is likely to me. People will stay away from places like this because it just isn't worth it. I'm sure the law will also crack down on places like this because of this shooting as well.

RIP Poker in Texas.

Really hope this ain’t the end. As far as safety concerns go I’m hoping/assuming all these rooms from SA to Hou are going to be stepping up security. Nobody should feel bad about asking the on sight security officer to watch you walk to your car.

This is one of the things that I liked about POPC...they always had multiple people working security at any given time, with someone outside every time I looked. With some of the sketchier locations, it is the reason I have asked in more than one discussion about security...sadly, as a female, it has been what amounts to second-nature to be concerned and aware of my surroundings no matter whether alone or with other people.

That’s completely understandable. I mean even as a male I’m always paranoid about leaving any poker room. There is not much anybody can do with a gun pointed towards them. Don’t ever feel bad about asking security to watch you walk to your car. In general yes sadly this world is a cause for constant paranoia.

I was surmising that it would be the "beginning of the end" due to making it harder for local authorities to just be in "standby mode". It is a lot easier for them to do nothing when there is nothing news worthy happening. A murder or attempted murder at a gambling institution is going to draw a ton of attention and someone will have to cave to the oncoming pressure I would think.

Just my $.02

Was a popular instagrammer 3betpanda. He was targeted personally for the robbery. ****ing terrible this should go for everyone to be careful what you post online. Especially when it’s connected to your identity. You never know who is out there lurking.

So sorry to hear this. I started following him on IG recently. I've played at this room several times and wished I was in town to meet him and the Haslethousepoker crew while they were there. When I heard of the incident this morning I immediately thought of 3betpanda. So sad.
