RFID Table - It Begins! RFID Table - It Begins!

Ok. I pulled the trigger. I've ordered:
  • RFID Reader: QTY:1
  • RFID Antenna: QTY:16 (10 player, 3 board, 2 muck, one spare)
  • RFID Cards, Deck of: QTY:2
  • RFID Player ID Cards, 10-pack: QTY:2
I'll form a much better project plan and post it shortly, but here's where we are now:
  • I've asked Andrew at VideoPokerTable.net to provide a router path that includes room for a ShuffleTek shuffler.
  • I've identified a felt printer that has the size felt I need, the material I like, and is comparably priced.
  • I've identified a local CNC wood cutter who'll do the table for $75.
  • I'll order foam and vinyl from YAT in the next day or so.
  • I have both a spare/used desktop PC with considerable horsepower to run the main software and an older generation tablet PC with pen-touch input to act as the "producer's" PC, for tracking bets.
  • I'll order the folding legs online, and purchase screws, stains and the remaining assembly parts (glue, etc.) locally at Lowes.
  • I'll be taking a couple million photos, all on a nice DSLR, posting cropped versions here, linked to high-res ones posted on Omaha8.org

Andrew offered some of those with early interest a discount on the equipment, but this was still a significant purchase. "The Boss" agreed to let me make it, so the Paypal transaction is processed and as soon as it clears in Australian Dollars from my "play things" credit card, we're good to go.

Do I understand correctly that only the betting has to be manually counted and put in a computer?

Aren;t there RFID chips yet? (this what I've been wondering for a long time on a side note: why don't casinos implement RFID chips... there are a lot advantages?? What am I missing...)

Yes, there are RFID chips, and they're pretty much used in situations where you set one or two flag-size chips on a spot in BlackJack, and the sensor apparatus isn't such currently that you can put 43 assorted chips in the middle of the pot and have it just count them all.

To your first question, as I understand it, and as I've had it explained, and per the manual (I mean, I don't have one delivered yet - it's shipping from Australia once my card goes through) -- yes -- you either need:
  • A "producer." A guy has a tablet PC and he keys in bets and other actions that the mere passing of cards over the RFID spots can't catch.
  • Time in post-production. All the info is captured, as is multiple cameras. You just review the hands afterward. Since it's supposed to take a minute or so per hand, it likes takes a long in post-production as it does to PLAY the game.
I'm quite computer savvy, so I'm not worried about either having a producer -- or being the producer -- or doing it in post-production.

...and, of course, the CARDS and sound and pictures are recorded regardless, so it's pretty obvious if someone near a microphone repeats the bet amounts.

Okay I want to deal and do post production commentary. I'm not nearly as annoying as Norman Chad and am way funnier.

My package has shipped - or at least it has a tracking number assigned to it.

The clock is running.

Current finish estimated sometime after 5/4, based primarily on the custom felt - as it needs chosen, fixed in illustrator, sent for printing, then shipped. I imagine there will be some slippage in that schedule, however, as I'm sure I'll end up missing SOME sort of widget.

Legs and USB cables ordered, vinyl/foam order is on hold pending decisions on the felt. Order has bent sent to the CNC shop for pricing

I'm considering taking a trip to Harbor Freight for some cheap entry level air-tools to make the stapling easier -- and because I'd like a compressor and some air tools

Estimated cost is currently $2500.05 - with the following notes:
  • Does not reflect the discount given by Andrew over at videopokertable.net.
    • I've left this out to reflect what one would pay to reproduce this project.
  • Does not reflect the cost of computer hardware. I have extra machines.
  • Does not yet include cameras, as they haven't been chosen.
  • This will be updated after the estimated cost of some items is replaced by the actual cost.

Soooooo tempting to spend part of my tax refund following in your footsteps, but instead I'll just watch from afar.

The Boss has requested burgundy speed felt with Merlot vinyl in roughly the configuration below.
  • Gold player circles and board.
  • The "S&Crown" element from my chips (not with a red background, just in matching gold).
  • The "Crown&Fleur" surrounding the box (no white element).
Simple, includes my chip elements, but doesn't plaster my logo everywhere. I'm undecided if the bottom crown should be turned 180 degrees.

Foam x2 and Vinyl ordered from YAT with the 15% Scott Keen forums code.

Old tablet memory upgraded to 1GB to support Windows 7 and OS installed. Will patch and get on wireless when I get home.

Current completion date is no sooner than 5/5

And Palimax- did I miss a post/thread, explaining why you're building this table for your home game?

Omaha8.org is just one of my vanity domains with nothing hosted there.

There's video on his site. Did I give a bad link?

Here's a link to the demo/explanation video on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1-p4JNrgQw

Why build it? Dunno. Why climb mountains? Why blow 2k on a toy? I guess because I wanted to. I look forward to producing some videos for my circle of friends, having our "big" games on it and making videos for people after-the-fact. It just seemed fun... ...and I'm a colossal geek, so the project in general seemed fun.

Who does it at your game?

This table works two ways.
  1. As a completely normal table with felt and padding and stuff. Ship pots how you'd ship pots.
  2. Exactly like above, except a computer is semi-automatically updating on-screen graphics as if you were playing on PAD or... ...whatever your favorite TV poker show is. And I can stream that video to the net though something like Justin.TV, Livecast, or whatever when we have a game (think "Live at the Bike"). Or I can produce it afterward with commentary and full details.
The only thing this does is tracks the cards on the board and in hands, and calculate percentages. A producer (live or in post-production) has to input action like bets and raises. Folds get captured by the muck sensors.

Thanks, I will.

BigSlickPoker.com had a great price on custom felts through ScottKeen. I'm negotiating my final product. I'll update that later.

The quote is back on my wood with CNC cutting.

$203.11, which should end up being two Franklins in hand.

That includes $88 in lumber (three sheets), so my CNC cutting is costing me $112 (or $115.11). Price includes tax on the lumber.

No major updates today. A few things went from "ordered" to "shipping" and I picked up the compressor and new staple gun.

I did my last railing with an electric staple gun. Doing so this time with a air compressor driven gun will be much faster -- and much more fun

Time to update the Gantt chart.

I'll be in Vegas for the next few days.
