Just want to see if we made the right ruling.

Cards/game are really inconsequential, but it was a PLO-8 hand.

The dealer is not in the hand, and has been burning cards.

It is heads up on the turn. The turn is dealt (a 5) , and the action checks quickly between the two players. The dealer then announces he failed to burn a card, and quickly deals the 'natural' turn card, a K.

Should the 5 stay because action has occurred by both players?

Thanks!

The 5 should stay, and he shouldn't have turned over the K.

Since it is a home game, and since it is heads up , and since neither of these two are at fault , maybe they should get to say what to do if they can agree. Personally , in this particular situation , I would suggest making the five the burn (since they both checked it , and it is very likely a blank ) and playing the King as the correct turn card. Other rulings could be just as good too , as long as the two players have a say about it and agree.

Any conversation about whether they should run the street again with the K is going to shed light on holdings, and favor whoever is better at metagame, with no benefit to the game, and a great chance of hard feelings.

OK! Maybe you are right , but I don't care a trifle. Seems your home game experience is with much more serious types of players than my experience. To each his own. Playing on and getting to the next hand is our groups main concern. Most of our players would think Metagame is a Marvel Super Hero.

Keeping the 5 is also the quickest way to play on.
If it's a really casual game where no one cares if proper procedure is followed, why would you be burning cards to begin with, or why would anyone notice or care if the burn were skipped?
That, plus the fact that they're playing PLO 8, made me think it's a semi serious game.

Could be. Again I don't care that much how they resolve stuff. Semi Serious games are often NOT Self Dealt , but some likely are. And also casual games often have some players that are more concerned about about stricter adherence to structures and rulings. From your posting history ( I have read skads of your comments over the years) you seem to fall into that category of player. Nothing at all wrong with that. You seem reasonable enough to me. We just prefer a different home game environment it seems. If you think my take on this situation is sketchy ,you would likely be mortified by some of the things our crew does each friday to have fun and move things along and keep folks happy and coming back. BTW I am done defending my personal opinion on this , because I won't change and it is only one persons ( mine) opinion anyway.

No problem. I wasn't meaning to attack you.

The 5 and the K are reshuffled into the deck. Then new burn and turn.

Robert's Rules of Poker:
https://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/reso...-04396837683e/ (PDF-file)

IRREGULARITIES
16. If the dealer fails to burn a card or burns more than one card, the error should be corrected if discovered before betting action has started for that round. Once action has been taken on a boardcard, the card must stand. Whether the error is able to be corrected or not, subsequent cards dealt should be those that would have come if no error had occurred. For example, if two cards were burned, one of the cards should be put back on the deck and used for the burncard on the next round. On the last round, if there was no betting because a player was all-in, the error should be corrected if discovered before the pot has been awarded, provided the deck stub, boardcards, and burncards are all sufficiently intact to determine the proper replacement card.

Edit: In this case the 5 plays and you burn two cards so the actual river becomes the river.

Thank you all.

It is a semi-serious though low stakes game (1-1 PLO8) but we try to be maniacal about proper procedure.

We did it right.....should have looked up robert's rules on the phone, but we were playing in a very bad phone zone at the time, etc.
